Looks like someone might have oiled that fretboard also(+shiny frets now). Much better, and the pickups too of course.

Re: My two modded Neon Green ESP LTD M-50FR

Oh yeah, I always oil the fretboard and polish the frets when I get new guitars. Good eye! Lol!!

What's the logic behind repeatedly throwing serious modding $$ at very low end LTDs?

Or are you targeting specific models that for some reason were noticeably higher end than their model number implies?

If it sounds and feels good it is good?

Great looking guitars. :) Probably sound great too with those improvements.

How is the GFS VEH neck?

Hello.

Nice. And great pics. And great to see how proud you are of them.

THIS topic you don't wanna get ME started on!!! LOL!!! Short version: I get it (the logic) VERY well. Nothing wrong.

By the way:

What are you polishing your fretboards with??? I've been using Dunlop lemon oil but I've just recently found out that a) this is probably only cleaning them and b) it could even be drying them out (not sure how true this is of course). I'm thinking of ordering some of that stuff called "Guitar Honey" (Gerlitz) or "Fretboard F-ONE Oil" (Music Nomad) (the latter being preferable so far as I can tell)???

So you can keep living in denial?

Re: My two modded Neon Green ESP LTD M-50FR

That's a bit harsh don't you think???

I don't know these guitars at all. But the OP is obviously very proud of them. Why spoil it for the guy???

Re: My two modded Neon Green ESP LTD M-50FR

I have a couple lower end guitars that i purchased w/ the idea of being able to bring them traveling w/ me or having something i can leave out, bang around and play the hell out of. I will say, those ones are my guitars that see most use. Imo ltd guitars have a lot of bang for the buck. Sure, modding inexpensive guitars may be a money pit and may not retain value, but i’ve played some good guitars that were under $300 or even $200 that can become great guitars with an extra $200 put into them.

A great guitar is a great guitar. The man can do what he wants without my permission or yours, and i think those green ones look freakin awesome

Truthfully tho I enjoy modding them. It's become kind of a hobby. I rarely buy a guitar new, normally spending no more than $200 on a guitar. One of the green ones in the pic (with the chrome covered pickups) I bought basically like new for $150 and the other one was a Christmas gift. I also rarely buy pickups new, so it's not like I'm putting $200 in pickups in them. On the one I bought I got the guitar for $150 and both pickups for about $100. Add in the treble bleed kit and I've got ~$255 in the guitar. It stays in tune great (I never get crazy with any trems, even the FR type), and now sounds amazing for less than I could have gotten just the stock guitar brand new. For me...I'd rather have 10 cheaper guitars I've modded than to have one expensive guitar that I'll be afraid to take out and play. That's just me tho.

So I'll keep putting "lipstick on my turds" because that's what I want to do. If I were a pro player and making my living playing music I might think differently, but that's just not in the cards for me.

A cheap guitar that plays well that can be modded with cheap parts to sound good, is better than a guitar that does both right out the box at a higher price. You can get a lot deeper into personalization than the companies will. Theres certain mods that companies are either unable or unwilling to perform to appeal to a wide audience and for various business reasons.

I am all for modding what you like to play. Or not. You do you.

I enjoy doing it. I've bought quite a few used guitars that were not worth keeping and have either returned them or sold them without modding. If there's issues with bad frets or other things that will cost a lot to fix I don't keep them. I do realize however that basically every guitar with a normal nut (not locking) will need to have the nut filed properly, so I have my guitar tech do those for me.

Re: My two modded Neon Green ESP LTD M-50FR

I believe you will find me to be one of the earliest proponents of "If it feels good, and sounds good, it IS good"

Do what you you for whatever reason you choose to do it. Acknowledge that it may not be practical, sensible, or even a good idea. But at least know that and own it.

Are they tuned different? What do you prefer playing with each?

* Wouldn't it be funny if he could play rings around OC with them?
