(my) warmoth les pauls

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

:kabong:

Bolt-ons have more articulation, are easier to swap tone options, easier to work on, etc. Cheaper to produce? Wood is wood, labor is labor... maybe just easier to assemble :cool2:

Yes, I ment easier to assemble. I guess 'produce' was the incorrect word to use.

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

Wow - I love that tobaccoburst burst.

I think much of the Les Paul bolt-on versus glued neck debate comes from the fact (which we're all aware of) that bolt-ons are easier and cheaper to produce so the 'cheaper' guitars tend to be bolt-on and these come with cheaper hardware which affect overall sound. And it's also going against 50 years of Les Paul history.

easier to assemble: yes. easier to carve? no way. the tolerances are much more critical, if you want to have a TIGHT neckjoint. with a glued in neck you can 'toy' a bit, because you have GLUE to make it stick together. you dont see the big gaps, which, by the way, are almost always present with gibson les pauls. With bolt on, you have to cut it VERY tight. no gaps allowed.

and as if I care about 50 years of les paul history! 50 years ago we were driving cars without airbags, no MP3players or navigation build in, etc etc. does that mean we can't have those right now, eventhough technology allowes it, and perhaps can make the car (guitar) better?

oh, I simply hate dogma's and 'tunnel vision'. oh, i hate the Netherlands for that matter.

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

I made new pics today, also pics of my entire set of guitars. I hope you like 'em!

for some sort of a reason, photobucket reduces the quality of the pics, sorry....

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

That fireburst quilt chambered with the padauk is lookin really fine in this set of pics! How is padauk?

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

no, its not holding it in place :D That sg plays and sounds very, VERY cool! very 'old school iron maiden' style, and I use it for that kinda music, but the high E tends to get caught under the neck pickup bobbin, with that tape I dont have that problem.

and you guys thought that was only possible with dimebag and his floyd-equipped ML's! :D

about the padouk: its ok. i prefer wenge, rosewood, ziricote and ebony. Its not as slick as the others, but hey, its very much like rosewood when its 'new'. It has to be 'broken in'. my rosewood necks werent as slick when they were new as they are now, just as padouk. I feel it getting slicker and smoother by the day. I really like the sound of it: it complements the chambered body by making the sound very tight and 'twangy'. with the JB/jazz combo, it sounds awesome. with the split JB, I get a very cool tele-sound. with the jazz parallel and the JB split, I get a cool stratty sound, but stil: its a les paul.

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

Old School Maiden... Adrian Smith uses an SG with stock pickups (so I read) on a couple of songs. I saw that past two tours (Mar 2008, Oct 2006) and he did bring out a SG for a couple of songs. I've gotta get me an SG.

yeah, I know ;) he's one of the reasons I have that SG (and I had a parker Fly I wanted to get rid off, so I traded that one for this sg: faded special, with one piece body!) and also the reason I started to save up for a black beauty. Later on, I learned about Page having a 3 pickup, (Smith has a 2 pup on stage) and that black beauty is my main axe, and will be so until the day I die. that thing is the best (stock!!) guitar around. is it noticable, by the way, that I have a 'thing' for 3 pickup guitars? ;)

the other guy who played an SG for very long, was Glenn Tipton. That sg+vee makes a very cool set, just like the gibson SG+Vee Priest set, dont you think?

too bad I did not have that band in mind, but UFO/Schenker (vee) and Maiden (sg), not even ac/dc :D

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

^ yea, you definately have a 3 guitar preference. Personally, I'm not really into having that middle pickup because of my picking style. I tend to hit the middle pu when picking/strumming ... unfortunately. I've do have two MIA strats with 3 single coils (one of them has hotrails) but none of my humbucker guitars have middle pickups. I would like to have an SG or Les Paul with 3 pickups though.

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

haha I know that many people dont like that 3rd one, and at first, I just wanted it for looks, and couldn't play with it at all, but now I still want it for the looks, but now I dont hit it as much as I used to. If I dont have that 3rd pickup, I dont have my aid for the right place for the pinch harmonics. strangely enough, on the 3 pup guitars, I can make better pinches than on the 2pup guitars. has something to do, I think, with the location of my hand due to that 3rd pickup.

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

I haven't been a fan of 3 humbucker guitars yet, so props for fighting with that kind of real estate, but I can definitely say getting used to a HSH set-up isn't too bad, in fact it's helped me learn more about different tones I can get from strum locations.

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

Those are some cool guitars. :approve: :cool2: :approve: :drill: :friday:

What happened to the Dean? I use to have a '96 Dean USA ZX bolt on. It was one of the best Deans I've owned but at 10.5lbs it was a log. Here is a 1999 Czech made Dean Prototype Z. I did the Stars treatment to it with 3M reflective vinyl. Stuf they use on roadsigns. :nervous:

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

oh, I still have the explorer and the epi 7 string Vee. They just didnt fit on the pictures haha.

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

Oh man those are some amazingly good-looking LPs.
I LOVE the falmeburst quilted top, the Koa one kinda looks to me like Spalted Maple (which is a good thing since I also LOVE Spalted Maple) and I have a really weird thing with Purple guitars. I just can't get enough of em! :D

This is an amazingly nice collection right there man and, I agree. The Set-neck isn't my all-time-favorite neck joint. Neck-thru, Set-thru/Deep-set-neck and Bolt-on/Bolt-ins, I prefer all of them over Set-Necks...

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

I'll take the Fireburst and the Purple Quilt please.:)

Cuz you don't have enough!?!?!?!?!?!

Great guitars man - I have a Warmoth inspired Paul I may make someday - this thread is certainly helping...

Re: (my) warmoth les pauls

^ I'm currently building my parts-o-caster but this thread and those pics make me think my next project may be a Les Paul.
