Mystery Pickup

Hi everyone. I recently pulled an SD pickup out of a used Les Paul and am having trouble identifying it. It's a 4 conductor, wax potted humbucker with 2 creme bobbins, 1 set of adjustable pole pieces and 1 set of fixed pole pieces. The only identifying marks on it are "Seymour Duncan" stamped into the metal backing plate and a small sticker reading "DD-3". I measured the resistance and got an overall of 15.80 kOhm, the North windings with 7.97 kOhm and the South windings with 7.84 kOhm.

The only pickup I can identify on the Tone Chart as being similar is the PATB-1 (Bridge), but I'm skeptical because of the "DD-3" sticker I found.

Has anyone out there come across this kind of labeling on their pickups or have an idea what type this pickup could be? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Mystery Pickup

looks like a nice double creme "Duncan Distortion"...

probably sounds amazing...my double black "DDJ" stickered model is loud and menacing!!!

Re: Mystery Pickup

Seems like a Duncan Distortion. However i dont know what the 3 stands for. hmm

Re: Mystery Pickup

Is it possible that the "3" is actually a faded "B" . . . as in bridge model?

Re: Mystery Pickup

Yes, since the sticker was soaked in the wax potting, it's entirely possible that it read "DD-B" instead of "DD-3". I hadn't even thought of that. Thanks for the good catch!

Re: Mystery Pickup

My guess is that the sticker faded, making a B into a 3. The DD signifie's a pickups made prior to 2002. The DD is the bridge pickups, the B would be whomever wound the pickup. If it was a Distortion Neck, those were coded SEY at the time.

If you want to sell it, please let me know. I'll take it.
