N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

I know that folks don't get too excited about Corts, but dang this thing is nice. (MIK) Solid mahogany body, w/mahogany set neck. Flamed maple cap and headstock. Full binding all the way 'round. Tone control is a factory push-pull to split the pups. Sounds decent too, although, it will get the full electronics treatment. I fell in love with this as soon as I saw it in our new neighborhood GC. (Used - less than 2 bills.) The thing is perfect. Nary a ding.

I was thinking a pair of Pearly Gates might be sweet in this thing, but not sure how they'd go with all that mahogany. :scratchch

P.S. Every one I've seen on the 'net had the maple mismatched down the centerline as if it was "book-matched". This one is uniform all the way across the body. Makes me wonder if it's a photo-top?

If you like it don't worry about cork sniffers on any internet board. Whatever rocks your socks! As for me I think it's a beautiful guitar. Congrats on the new guitar!!!

Beautiful guitar. I've been liking guitars from Korea as of late. But yeah, it looks like it may be a photo top... Or you just got a brilliantly topped Cort. Happy NGD!

Me too. :D

I don't really mind the photo-top, if it is one. Now that I understand how its done, it's a fairly clever process.

My new PRS SE was MIK and it's amazing. I just played my friend's Schecter Hellraiser C-1 and that's made in South Korea and it was almost as good a player as the PRS.
... Back to photo tops lol
I'd rather my guitar both look and sound beautiful, at a good price. If the tonewoods sound good together but there's no maple top, why not have a photo top if you like maple?
This may be a stupid question but does it sound like it's got a maple top? I've seen great tops on cheap guitars before. Rare, but real.
My LTD tele that I got ripped off on (rushed sale, wasn't allowed to play through an amp, etc) though it has major fret problems, has a beautifully flamed neck, though it's supposed to just be a normal neck.
I can post a pic of the flaming you'd like to see

The thing is, that's hard to say. I believe the purpose of the maple top is to restore a little "brightness" to an otherwise dull wood. But cheap import pups tend to be bright. These don't actually sound bad, but I'm not sure which elements of the tone are the pups, the top, the wood, or what? I'll know better after I play with some different pup combinations.

Sure. :)

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

I've got a couple of Cort basses and can't think that anyone would be disappointed with them. I've got one of their Source semi-acoustics too, that I basically gutted - there's plenty to like and not much to not.

Perfectly said! Artie, if it trips your trigger, thats all that matters!! However, from the pics, it looks like a very nice axe!! People snubb my Michael Kelly Patriot when I take it out, but its a dang nice playing and sounding guitar

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

Yeah, I've seen pics of that Patriot. It's a nice axe. Someday, we'll have to get together and compare "notes". ;)

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

Easy to check if it's a photo top or maple...even how thick it is. Sometimes you can tell just by removing the control cover, but certainly when you change pups.

That's a very gorgeous looking guitar. Kinda like a McCarty wannabe?

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

Thanks Doc. Didn't think about that. Both the controls and the pups will be changed as soon as my PG's arrive. ;)

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

I predict it is a veneer top. Real wood, but very thin. Then the next question is whether that's laminated to a maple top with a mahogany back, or that's ALL mahogany under there. You'd be able to see that from the humbucker cavities.
