NAD and NPsD

Hey guys.

This is a continuation of a NGD currently in the Guitar Room.

I've picked up a few bits over the last few months that I've not posted about due to 1 thing or another, so thought I'd do a quick thread for anyone that's interested. I'll use stock photos where applicable as I haven't taken any myself yet.

NAD:

A Vox Valvetronix VT20+ for home use and general noodling. For the last 4 or 5 years I've been using a 4 speaker Roland Micro Cube RX but 2 weeks ago for some reason it decided to not switch on anymore. It never sounded particularly good but it was useful just for learning songs etc infront of the PC. I was planning on getting a Blackstar ID15 with valve modelling as they sound really good, but I couldn't afford the £200+ they go for so found the Vox for cheaper. It sounds good, definitely better than the Cube, has a lot of features and saved me money over the Blackstar

Onto the NPsD:

I'd been looking for a smaller Multi FX unit as I can't always be bothered to take my rack FX with me, so I got the Line 6 M5 as it does pretty much everything I need it to do and will happilly sit infront of my SLO or in the loop or my Splawn, depending on what band I'm using it with at the time. It only does 1 effect at a time, but as I only need a bit of chorus, phaser, delay or octave pedal here and there throughout both of my bands sets this pedal is ideal. I control it with MIDI via a Voodoo Labs switcher with the Splawn and just on/off on the pedal when it's infront of the SLO. Effect quality is good, I like the Dimension C Chorus sound on it, aswell as the Phaser models.

This Blackstar LT Boost is 1 of their new range of pedals that are normal sized and don't have valves in. I use it purely with my P90 equipped JJ Guitar when using the crunch channel on my SLO. It really thickens it up and gives me a bit more control over the EQ shape that I want when using that guitar. Toe-Knee has used it too and likened it to an MXR Micro amp with additional +/- EQs on. Whether that's what the circuit actually is I have no idea. Sounds good though and fits my purpose so I don't mind what it is! :D

Last up is a new wah:
Dunlop Crybaby 95Q Switchless (I won't bother with a pic for this 1 as it just looks like a standard crybaby + a kickswitch and 2 tiny external controls)

For a while I've been wanting a thicker, less vintage sounding wah that was also switchless for live use and it came down to either a Morley Bad Horsie 1/2 or the 95Q. I've owned a Bad Horsie in the past so knew what it sounded like, but I decided to go with the Dunlop mainly for the reason that it has a much smaller footprint. As well as the switchless operation it also has 2 external controls for Q (size of wah sweep I think) and Gain Boost, plus a kick switch for boost on/off. I tend to find I have the Q set for pretty much the widest sweep available with a bit of boost in there to thicken it up.

Re: NAD and NPsD

Awesome gear. I have that same Valvetronix model. I never really got on with any of the "metal" settings, but I really dig the AC15 red channel with the Tube Screamer model. I dig the red UK Metal channel with the TS on as well.

Re: NAD and NPsD

The Line6 M5 looks interesting. Especially since it has stereo inputs. This would lend itself perfectly to a "stereo" mod to any dual-HB guitar. :scratchch

Edit: I mean, any dual-HB, dual V/T guitar.

So you like the models of the thick channel on the Vox Night Train and the Marshall JCM2555 Slash Signature, that's cool.

I tend to find myself using either the Slash Signature model, the JCM800 model (UK Rock Orange), the JTM45 (UK Rock Green) or Soldano SLO (US High Gain Orange) the most. I'm still to use many of the effects on it apart from reverb to be honest.

I don't have any other pedals with stereo outs to test the L6M5 in that way, but I can appreciate it's a good idea in the correct context.

How's the wah? I've been toying with getting myself the 95Q for the switchless option.

I really like it so far. The tweaks available make it quite a versatile pedal.

For me it came down to either the Bad Horsie, which i've owned before but is too large, the morley mini, which I never heard a good clip of, or the 95Q.
