NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

Wattage

High Voltologist
A good guy on a local gear page needed to move it before heading off on tour Monday, crazy good price for a really clean amp. Love the Orange!

I'm going to have my tech re-tube it, these tubes sound a little flat but no issues otherwise. Psyched! And mega-thx to the Mrs. who helped make it happen:headbang:

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

Just the head or the cabinet too?

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

Head only, the cab is a 4x10 I had made for me a few years ago.

Pine box, 1/3 open back, with (2)Emi Ragin Cajun x (2)Emi Ramrod, runs at 8 Ohms

Awesome. I've wanted to try one for quite a while, never seem to pop up around here though.

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

Lot of knobs there! Never would have figured you for an Orange ... congrats! Supportive spouses are the dog's whatsits! :)

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

Just 2 channels with Master, Gain, Treb, Mid, Bass pretty simple. Slightly different voicings between the channels, Chan 2 is a bit grainier with a little more gain than 1.

I've always liked Orange, when they came back I had an AD15 112 combo that I never should've gotten rid of but it couldn't keep up with Nasty and I didn't have the coin to hang on to it. I've had my Dual Terror for close to 3 years now, and this is kind of a dream amp.

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

Nice; once again, congrats on a killer amp. I am definitely NOT an Orange guy ... just not my speed. I have been kinda-sorta looking at Hiwatt/Hiwatt clones to go with my old 4x12, but not sure I want another 'big wattage' amp in my life again ... I am having too much fun diming and stacking these little suckers I have at home! :)

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

My buddy runs an old 50 Hiwatt head and it is so righteous.

I've seen some 20wt Hiwatt clone kits that turned out pretty well too.

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

Pagey used a single channel ad30, iirc on the last zep reunion thing, along with his Marshall.

There is a 2 Channel used ad30 sitting down the road at my local GC. I think they have it priced around a grand.

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

$1k is about what these generally go for used, see some around $900 if they aren't so clean.

Yes Page was using an AD30 :)

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

So I opened it up to see what it has in it

JJ GZ Rectifier
(4) Mullards EL84
(4) Orange 12AX7

I am stumped as to why it would have a nice set of PT's and a very good Rectifier tube and they'd leave the dull-ish pre's in? Oh well at least it's an easy swap anyways

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

Bet you will be able to "squeeze" some great tone out of that!!! Triple congrats!!! Cool new amp, dream amp, and killer spousal unit for helping out!

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

Not being well versed in Oranges, (life has dealt me more lemons...) What makes this one favorable for you? Only orange Ive ever played is a TT.

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

This one is more classic Orange flavor than the TT or my DT.

Not as much gain and more mid than upper mid focused.

Sounded great with the band but Iwas pushing a little more volume than I normally would. It definitely likes to be opened up.

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

That's awesome! I'll own one of those one day. Their sponginess is very interesting (at least I hear a lot of it...do you?). They never pop-up used around here but I also said that about my TV50 so fingers crossed!

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

Awesome Wife!
When I was looking at amps a couple years ago I tried a Boogie Mk V. I had a gig sh!t eatin grin on my face. I was like.... I don't know man........ She was like.... Just get it......! It's sitting next to me right now! I So Love My Wife!

Re: NAD - Citrus-y Goodness AD30

I acquired my Jubilee nearly 10 years before I met longcat, but last fall she did encourage me to buy the Red Lead 12 stack I've wanted for years. These days I play through it more than all of my other amps. I just need to figure out a high pass filter mod to fix some of the mud.
