One of the BEST, non-multi-thousand-dollar (to my ears of course) ''affordable'' tones i've ever heard (live) was a fuzz, into a Pro Jr.

A few quick notes about the new Fender Blues Jr amp...1 the rectifier IS solid state, so perhaps standby switch is a good mod. 2. While better than the Eminence stock "special design" speaker, I found the tweed Jr with a Jensen C12 to have a more defined tone than the C Rex. If you think about a speaker change, try a Jensen alnico, which is the best Jensen option. 3. Very cool, as is amp so most upgrades are icing on the cake. 4. The cab is mdf so a custom all pine cab from an aftermarket company is probably the best upgrade for a jr. Enjoy!

After playing some more with my pedals, my new Warmoth guitar has really bonded with this amp. The C-Rex is most definitely staying in there–for the time being I'm not changing anything. lol

Eventually I would like to get another one and try a slightly larger pine cab–will keep my eyes out for a cheap one to do that with, I've seen these dirt cheap at times on CL.

I nearly snagged a Fender Tweed Pro Jr for $225 here in Atlanta but after playing the Blues Jr. I really decided that it fit new Warmoth perfectly (my Hot Rod Deluxe doesn't like the new axe but loves my Strat.)

But the Pro Jr. is a great amp and the used prices are awesome!

The only mods I did were a C-Rex and a leather handle. Couldn't be happier.

love the amp for what it is. you got a good deal on a decent amp with a good speaker. start throwing too much money at pine cabs and this and that and you might as well get a better amp. and my advice is never to buy a jensen speaker, get weber instead. fitting an alnico speaker in a blues jr can be a little tight too. a celestion blue sounds amazing but doesnt really fit

There is a special edition of this amp in a replica early Fender pine "Woody" cabinet. Does it sound noticeably different to the regular models?

I don't mind getting something like Billm Mods done for it but would while I would love to try a pine cabinet for it, I would rather save up and get something nicer...love the specs on this '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb

I love my blues junior nos with its Jensen speaker, although I spend more time playing through a jtm 45 clone I built (with a master volume-don't want the neighbors to kill me- and a mid boost switch). To anyone thinking of making a head out of a BJ, there's a guy (I think on ebay that makes a pine 2x10 combo cabinet to put a blues junior chassis into.

Congrats!

I used to have a Blues Jr. I had a Greenback in it, which improved the overall tone. It was a good amp, but was just too much if a one trick pony for me, and since I had other amps that could do what it did, plus alot more, I ended up selling it.

I'm still enjoying it, but definitely prefer the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for my playing. The Blues Jr. is definitely better for apartment playing and seems to sound better with humbuckers, IMO.

My experience was the opposite. Mine was alright with humbuckers. But when I plugged my Tele into it and cranked the gain and volume, it just sang.

Ha! That's hilarious! Maybe its how I have mine setup...my Hot Rod Deluxe tends to prefer single coils.

Standby technically is only needed with solid state rectification.

It's funny how sometimes the mind sees what it wants to see, instead of what's actually there. I read that several times as: "solid state amplification". And I was thinking, what the flock is he talking about. Eventually I was able to clear my memory buffer and realize what you actually said. :banghead:

I read the whole sad history of standby switches, including how Jim Marshall copied the Fender amp that had a standby and thus turned an unknown feature into a tradition...I especially liked that Vox had to add a standby to their reissue AC30 and placed it in the wrong place and then had to modify their modification...My apologies to treyhaislip for repeating what I now know to be an old wive's tale
about needing the standby more if you have a solid state rectifier...totally not true.

i love my bill m modded blues jr (stock speaker)

and it loves my duncan twintube classic pedal to turn it into a 3 ch solution

it needs dialed in for each, but my strat (SSS), PRS SC245 (HH), and PRS soapy (2xP90) all sound very good from clean to crunch to full drive... anything short of the brutalz should work nicely
