Yeah, everything is going up now days, might give it a look. They also have a Marshall 2525H and a DSL, considerably more $ of course, but I don't see those going down either.

Those Carvin X100s have never been my thing, but I can't recommend that 2525H highly enough. I've had a 2555 since mid-2001 and it was 'my' sound for nearly 20 years. I've played it maybe 10 times since I picked up the 2525H 5 years ago. I got an amazing deal @ $850, but they should be available for around $1000 or a bit less.

They have it listed at $1200, a DSL (made in UK I'm pretty sure) for $850, they also have an Orange TH50 head and a '64 Custom Deluxe, may have to go play some amps. Do I need one, no, but...

*AD = After Donald, BC = Before CoVid, 2020 didn't exist (this is according to our engineering manager who has a great sense of humor)

I had a fuzzy one, it rocked. It was a weird amp tho, and I’ve had a couple like this, where one day it would sound amazing and another day it would sound sorta farty to me. Due to the size I eventually sold it but I was impressed.

I'd been thinking $1599, but I checked the write ups from 2016 winter NAMM, and they were $1299. I've seen a couple on CL up here for around $1000, but it's been a few months at least. I have no idea what they'd go for used in a store.

I thought I would update you guys on this head. Our lead singer has been using the X100B. It still sounds amazing. He picked up a Gretch w/ tron pickups and is getting some beefy rhythm tones. Whenever I hear him playing through it, I am ready to ask him to switch amps. The cleans are amazing, but the gain channel has a ton of thump and fantastically fills the mix. The cool thing is that he is plugging straight into the amp, and it is sonically giving him everything he wants.

I could see myself buying another Carvin, probably a combo, if I came across one at the right price.

This almost tempts me to see if I can get mine repaired. I removed it from the combo cab a few years ago when it burnt out a resistor. Turned the cab into a closed back 2x12. But I could certainly get the chassis installed into a head cabinet. I wonder how much it would cost?

I tried it for recording once, and it was not as quiet as I would have liked. But I am guessing the jack was put there for live applications vs recording. I have not found the need to use it live yet.

That's a Series IV the last version they built. Yep those are monsters! Great very modern voiced high tones in those amps. Does yours have the digital verb or a spring?
That's not the Steve Vai amp that is the reissue and is a whole other animal. Really nice amps and here s a good friend of mine former Carvin Endorser Keith Miller with his series IV X amp and Carvin DC 727.
.PS I have one of the 91 X 50 B Hot Rod Mod heads that they used Vai's Blue Powder as the demo for it's a much different amp.

Here is my old gray rat fur Series III Hot Rod Mod X 100B half stack live at my old Church. I was playing a Pearl White 1988 Carvin V220 this day and the only effect was a old Rockman delay in the loop. What a KILLER rig this one was!!

I have a 1986 Carvin X-100 B, got it brand new back in the day (1986 ) .

It doesn't have the drive of JCM 800, but put a good distortion thru the front input, it will out do a JCM 800 and it has Fender Cleans on the clean channel.
The effects loop is buffered and with the 5 band graphic Eq, you can easily get a Marshall or Mesa Boogie sound .

I like both, however, the louder I go the more I like 6L6. They seem more rich sounding to me.

That's not a 80's amp. That's the series IV reissue that was built up into the teens when the family split happened and the guitar side became Kiesel. Those are absolutely wicked amps! I own a 1991Series III X 50 B Hot Rod Mod amp now and have owned many Carvin amps.
