NAD! Marshall Content

Re: NAD! Marshall Content

I"ll be honest, I've gotten Slayer, Clapton, Hendrix, growl-to-piss-off-anyone- within- a-1-block radius tones out of it, buuut it takes some fiddlin' with the knobs between ev tone ( and I don't have the footswitch for it) so while I"m being honest it probably wouldn't make the best stage head if you play lots of diff styles in one gig, but that doesn't really matter to me right now, cause impressing myself and my GF (who actually tonally noticed the diff behind two closed doors, compared to my old amp) is what I'm about right now.

Oh, but you can use this head for different styles in one gig. I do all the time. I just set it with the gain sensitivity rather low or at half with the preamp gain wide open. If I need more dirt, I kick on an overdrive. If I need it cleaner, I kick on the Detox EQ or roll my guitar volume. Is it perfect? No. Does it get the job done and sound great doing it? Hell yeah.

You can make a footswich real easy. Buy a Hoover vacuum cleaner switch and a 1/4" mono jack. Mount them in an enclosure (a small one from Radio Shack will work just fine). Wire the switch to the jack (doesn't matter which wire goes on which terminal) and use any instrument cable to hook it to the amp. That's what I did.

ErikH thanks for the tip and the insight! You seem like you know what you're talking about! I do have a variety of pedals, which should give me options just like you listed above, but yeah, getting a footswitch going right away will be key!

Well, I have owned my MkIII 2100 since the mid 1990's and have played it through a nice variety of cabs and used a bunch of different pedals with it. If you've seen my page on the net, you'll know there's a good amount of info on there. I don't mean to toot my own horn but I've done my homework.

The SD-1 works great with it, any Tube Screamer variety does, a good booster does and the MXR Classic OD is just awesome with it. Probably my fav next to a clean booster.

All the footswitch does is it allows you to switch between Master Volume A and B. There is no change in the tone or gain structure, just two different (and independent) Master Volumes; One for rhythm (A) and one for lead (B).

Yeah I know, but still more useful than no switching options. Can I get a link to your website? Sounds interesting.

Re: NAD! Marshall Content

Gotta love those GC coupons!. I saved $20 on my last purchase...a Way Huge Green Rhino OD, which sounds great with Marshalls.

An even cheaper pedal that sounds awesome on Marshalls is the MXR Classic OD. You may not need a new OD, but just know that the MXR's always sound great with them for singing lead tones. Something about their gain structure and EQ just works perfectly.

I'm not kidding about the MXR Classic OD. It's like it was made for boosting a Marshall, as ErikH above stated and Gibson175 uses on his Marshall combo.....beating out his whole collection of OD's.
