Who would have thought a hybrid amp with a 20 watt solid state power section would sound so good. A pint sized tone monster. And shockingly loud in spite of its low wattage and no power tubes.

Congrats!

I just got one a few weeks ago. I took it to a gig, and the band had a good laugh until I turned it up and hit a chord. Jaws all over the floor.

I play mine into a pair of Cannabis Rex speakers. It's more than loud enough, and sounds and feels great to play.

I plan to swap cabs depending on the situation. Also planning to experiment with wet/dry setups and even blending the tones of the micro dark and Rebel 30 for a ginormous wall of sound. I've found because of the way the gain really just starts kicking in after 1 o'clock on the gain knob that it cleans up real well with the volume knob. Especially if you dial it in to that sweet spot where the gain rapidly launches into high gain.

I keep hearing great things about those little guys, may have to check one out when I get my job situation worked out.

I would almost guess that they are running the tube in starved mode though, in which case a tube swap would be give minimal gain.

I'm planning to try a tube swap next weekend.

The local music store only seems to stock Mesa Boogie tubes.

The pawn shop around the corner stocks tubes from TubeStore.com. I'll probably see what they have first. I find Mesa tubes overpriced considering they aren't anything more than rebadged tubes from other, often cheaper, sources.

How does the dark differ from the regular micro?? I played a regular one once and it was ok, but left me wanting more gain.. But yeah, cool how good it sounded and loud..

I have the regular Micro Terror and I love it.

I use it mainly as my practice amp at home, sounds really good and well it's just kind of fun to play through

I have the regular one as well. Great little headphone amp. Loud as all get out too.

From what I can tell, the Dark has an effects loop, which would be a necessity for me in a micro amp. I think it also has more gain and is voiced a little darker.

It's got a shape knob, instead of a tone knob, too. Basically it lets you boost mids and progressively cut bass and treble to the left, or scoop mids while progressively boosting lows and highs to the right.

I finally tried mine into my 4x12 today and it was stupid loud. It was so loud that I have to fix the input jack on the cab...it was rattling the contacts on the jack so bad the sound stuttered. I need one that can take the db level to ever play it that loud.

Devastone pretty much nailed it. Guitfiddle too with adding in that the "shape" knob is not the standard treble cut of a tone control.

I find the micro dark is pretty versatile too. I was getting sounds from classic 60's and 70's tones to more modern metal sounds.

Anyone looking for a low wattage amp for recording or home practice, I definitely recommend looking at one of these.

So far, I've heard that they hold their own in band rehearsal and gig situations too.

The Dark Terror has more top and bottom-end available via the shape knob. More gain on tap. Cleans have greater headroom, bloom and sparkle. More versatile but the regular Micro Terror might be better for straight up classic rock applications.

I just picked one up- love it. Must have for a Les Paul as it's very sensitive to the guitars volume and toe knob changes, coil taps, phase, etc

I've noticed that too. Even with the gain up pretty high, it cleans up nicely with the volume knob
