NAD Orange Rockerverb 50 MKIII

Greetings everyone,

I have owned this amp for a month now, just did not want to post a honeymoon review of it.

I have a closed back 2x12 Orange cab to go with this Rockerverb 50 Mark III amp.

This amp sounds amazing on all fronts. The clean channel is rich and complex, and has some "chimey" characteristics you may associate with Fender cleans. The overdrive channel is obviously what Orange is known for and this amp delivers. The overdrive is incredibly versatile, ranging from light overdrive to pure fuzz heaven. The amp's reverb sounds great too. The attenuator acts almost like a master volume control and is very useful in conjunction with the half-power/full-power switching to get the sound you want without blowing the windows out.

This is my first Orange amp and I highly recommend this model. No more distortion pedals or searching for sounds.. just pure sonic goodness.

The clean channel (and spring reverb) are supposedly good enough for Surf. What are your thoughts? I haven’t seen any videos that cover that area.

I too have never played through a proper Orange amp/cab like that, but they always seem to get good reviews. It looks like the OD channel has channel volume, b/m/t and another knob I'm not familiar with. Clean channel has b/t and volume and then master volume and presence? I was never good at reading their symbols, though most are easy enough to figure out.

Those are the things I want in an amp. I'll be in the market for an amp later this year or early next year, and I think I'm down to a Friedman Runt 50 and a Splawn Quick Rod, in my budget range. There may be a few others I need to consider as well, like the Orange.

I for one despise the pictograms.

Call it conservative rage if you must. I wamt my labels.

That is an incredible amp bro! CONGRATS! I've got the Jim Root #4 Terror which as you know has the Rockerverb MKII's preamp. I love it. I know I'd love this MKIII as well.

By the way OP you just showed me a neat way of using the big PPC 212 there - upright! If space is an issue this helps but it also looks cool like that and prevents you from having to bend to control your amp :)

I don't play surf music but I can definitely say the clean channel and spring reverb are both stellar and offer a huge range of tones.

On the pictograms topic, I thought it'd be lame at first but they are pretty cool and intuitive to use.

I think the pictograms are cool too and make them stand out from the rest.
