NAD! This VHT logo has to go.

It's a VHT/Fryette earlier model, Pitbull Fifty/CL. It doesn't have the EQ.

So far, I don't really know what to say. It's crazy what you can do with both channels on this amp. Both can go from super sexy clean, to just ballz out gain. I never would have thought there was really that much gain on tap, but it's there!

This Pitbull, is by far, hands down, the most awesome amplifier I have ever owned. And I've only played with for about an hour! The feel and tone of this amp are like nothing I've ever had. I instantly fell in love with it.

Congrats! I like the VHT logo on mine. Although it's the first generation logo so it looks badass. You can probably tell what year yours is by the serial# on the back. It's likely not as old as you think.

Those are damn good amps! Happy NAD!

I will not argue that point one bit!

It says BC960038. I'm going to assume that's a 96 model. I'm starting to not mind the VHT logo so much.

Owning a Fryette will be something I do before I'm done playing guitar. They're just incredible amplifiers. The one time I got to play through a couple of them, it was like a religious experience. There's nothing better. Only different.

It really is something different. I see myself holding on to this one for a long time.

I do have a few observations that I can try to explain.

The power amp on this monster is where the magic is. It just sounds better with the master volume no lower than noon. Not that it doesnt work well at any volume, it seems to do it's thang, with the volume up a little more. And the presence and depth knobs give huge range.

The two preamp channels are pretty close, only a bit of gain really seperates the 2. Each channel has the ability to do clean or heavy, but if you leave your guitar volume wide open, you may never get an actual "clean" tone. One of the best tricks of this particular beast, is how it reacts with your guitar. If you set up a moderately clean sound with your volume up, all you have to do is roll back on the volume just a little, and you have pristine clean. Hell, even with the channel set up high you can roll off the guitar volume get pretty nice clean. It will blow your mind as to what this thing can do. I'm amazed!

I think I like the green channel as my distorted channel better than the red, and vice vera. But, I'm also just learning the amp. It'll take a few days for me to really dail t in for me.

droooooooooooooooool

happy nad man, I also desperately want to own a fryette one day. probably not for a while though.

Re: NAD! This VHT logo has to go.

I think I have few more observation I can try to relay.

First off, This amp is obviously of the British persuasion. But, it's a lot tighter/less spongy in the ass end, than pretty much every Marshall I've ever played.
The gain structure of the preamps are something all to themselves. It almost has a fuzz kind of feel to it, but's just cleaner and more articulate. And so is the amp as a whole. If you pick lightly it sounds pretty. If you slap the string with a good bit of force, it gets nasty. Pitbull, is the perfect name for the amp. It can howl, sing, bark, growl, and whine. Whatever you want.

The options of it are almost overwhelming at first. I tend to like it in class A/B, with the tube rectifier on. The voicing switch I like in the out position. Green channel on with the gain around 3 oclock, boost on, edge on, and shift out. Master around noon, pre around noon or so, TMB around 7 or so.

Damn, what a fine piece of machinery!

Speaker matching and selection with these amps opens up an whole new can of worms.

I'm using a Wizard and a Governor in those two Blackheart 1x12s.

What kind of cab and driver are you using with your UL? I know what mine sounds like. I don't know what I would do with the kind of gain you have available.

I run mine simultaneously through a 2x12 with V12 Legends and a Mesa 4x12 with V30's. Neither speaker type has bright treble freq's so they suit the amp well.

Nice score!

Speaking of VHT logos...

If anybody ever comes across one of those original super-wide VHT logos from the early '90s, let me know. My Pittbull Classic needs one.

And this is the exact reason people should leave classic pieces of gear alone, instead of trying to change the look.
Years from now, nobody is going to want a classic VHT with a Fryette logo from another era.....or anything different.

I can't stand seeing missing logos, wrong logos, holes in the chassis, wrong knobs, fans installed, light shows installed, painted tolex, or anything else that devalues a good amp.

Leave that old VHT the way it is. If anything, just buy a Tuki padded cover for it.

Plus one.

Totally agree.

Really wish the previous owner hadn't rebadged this one. The logo size isn't even the same, so you can see where the glue was on either side of the new badge. Totally amateur hour.

I think he felt like some of the "exclusive cache" of his amp purchase was tarnished by VHT being a Chinese brand now. Like his old Fryette-era VHT was less desirable by association. Which struck me as pretty silly, since anyone who would know that would also know that the Pittbull is not now nor ever was some cheap import.

But whatevs.
