NAD--took a chance, let's see if it works out. Bugera.

Got a Bugera 333 212 at Musician's Friend scratch and dent for....$169. Free shipping. Not the Infinium or XL, but for that price I took a shot. It supposedly works fine, just looks banged up. Let's see what happens when it gets here.

She's here! So...unpacked and no power cord. Eh, pulled one from my old synth that's broke. Plugged her in and she fired right up. Let it warm up a bit, then started playing around with it. Sounds pretty much as I expected, but I think this combo can use an upgrade to V30s, or at least the WGS equivelents. When I feel like lugging this pig downstairs, I'll put it through my 4x12 with a V30/G12H30 X pattern and see how it goes. It DOES look like one of the 6l6 power tubes is either glowing faint, or not at all. For this price, I'll take it to the tech tomorrow and see what he thinks of it. I'm willing to put another bill or bill and a half to get it right. Any more than that and I'll return it. Oh, and the reverb is dead. May be just a small connection, but I don't use amp reverb anyway. I'd say a total of 300 AFTER a tech gives it a once over is more than acceptable if it comes to that. Got some casters I'll put on it if I keep it, and I'll have a nice "big" gig setup of the Bugera and the Badcat in stereo. Just the Badcat for smaller gigs.

Wow, lots of new, cool, cheap gear this week huh? Congrats and rock all those babies until your fingers fall off... :D

K, I popped the ridiculous gigantic screen off the back on the amp and one of the tubes is fried. The top of the tube where it is usually silver is powdery white and clear. It was one of the middle tubes, so I just popped out the good one and the bad, leaving the outer tubes, and cut the ohms to 8 from 16. Immediately the tone got a bit better. Oh, the reverb works. It has a reverb button AND a dial. I just tried the dial, hee hee. So I lugged it downstairs and played for a few minutes through the stock speakers. Sounded okay. Plugged it through my V30/G12H30 cab, and it came to life. Those stock speakers SUUUCK! The cleans were heavenly, and the distortions, much better. As a matter of fact, channel 3 is downright brutal. I love that channel. Feeds back like a stuck pig, but sounds so good. Will definitely either put V30s or a V30/G12H30 mix in this amp. Also have to try my 2X12 with the Splawn Small Blocks. Don't know how this amp will sound with a Greenback type speaker, but let's give it a shot, huh? Either way, I'll have to keep the two tubes out unless I just go double V30. For the price I paid, if I can get two years out of this thing, I'd be thrilled.

Re: NAD--took a chance, let's see if it works out. Bugera.

AND Musician's Friend is sending me a power cord. They don't guarantee tubes, but the guy checked to see if they could send me one, but they only stock the quad set, not a single. He said the amp is under 3 year factory warranty, so I'll contact Bugera on Monday. Still gotta try it with the Splawns.

Re: NAD--took a chance, let's see if it works out. Bugera.

Why not just get a matched quad from JJ's? Then just make sure it's properly biased.

Agreed.

First thing I did with my 1960 Infinium was pull the stock EL34s and drop in a quad of JJ 6CA7s.

For the record, though, the stock el34s were pretty decent sounding. Not sure how the 6L6GCs in your amp compare, though.

Love the 6CA7's!

I can't spend any more money at the moment. Reached the limit, lol. Gotta say though that the amp sounds great with the two tubes pulled, and it is more than loud enough. I wanna keep it for a bit before I sink any more into in--it IS a Bugera. It will be speakers first because the stock speakers are trash imo.

Make sure you adjust the output impedance switch appropriately since pulling two tubes changes the impedance of the amp.

Also, if you're on a budget, check out Warehouse Guitar Speakers.

Yup, did that. I actually have a Warehouse speaker(s) in one of my 4x12s. I forget if its the Reaper 55 or the Retro 30, or both, but once it broke in, we couldn barely tell the difference from when the cab was all Celestion. Great speakers.

Get the 2 year extended warranty from MF and it will last the 2 years. :D

I don't remember if that was offered. I don't think it was, but it supposedly has a 3 year manufacturer warranty per Jared at MF.

Supoosedly, it's only 3 years if the online registration was completed (within 30 or 90 days of ownership, cant remember which). One year otherwise. I'm not so sure it's transferable either. I forgot to fill it out for my V22. But I got it through Sweetwater so at least it's covered for 2 years by them.

Good to know. I'll see if I can register it at the Bugera site. Thanks!

Just give them a call and add it, should be able to do that. It's usually based on the original purchase price, so it should only be $20-$30. Then if it dies, you send it back to them and they refund your money. (As you know they're not going to repair it. :) )
