I've been holding back on this info for a while but I think it's time for the reveal.
The Bogner is gone. It was an awesome amp and it did it's duty with distinction, but the time had come for me to move to something that was a bit of a better fit for me.
Plus, having all that $$ tied up one big amp meant that I could have had two other amps that would probably satisfy me as well. So here we go...
"M" #1 - Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Tremoverb Head.
"M" #2 - Marshall 1987X Plexi Reissue
I was gonna take the Plexi to Dave Friedman's shop to have him turn it into a Marsha or a Naked but I kinda dig the way it sounds stock and wanna keep it that way for a while before I go messing with it.
I really dig them both. Like I said the Bogner's an awesome amp but the Boogie just - I dunno how to say it - fits my style and my music better. It adapted itself to my rig almost immedately and further tweakage only made it better. Just enough options to be really versatile and for me to use them all, and no more. It's a shame they discontinued these. I like them much more than the Dual Rec Solo heads. The tone seems more organic and fatter and juicier. The built in verb is nice (and something you don't get on a DR Solo head) but the real secret weapon is the built in tremolo. It's just plain cool. Clean tones are excellent and the drive channel rages. The Blues mode has that fat, nasty, somewhat dirty and reckless sounding breakup and the modern mode is just a beast. Love it. I can switch it down to 50W if I want and choose tube vs. SS rectifiers just like with the current ones. I plan to convert the effects loop to a series loop (never did like the Boogie parallel loops) but all in all I really do love this amp because it fits my needs tonally and practically.
The Plexi... well what can I say? It's a Plexi! Crank it up and let it rip for that old-school sound. I'm planning on experimenting with the pre and power tubes to refine it a little bit but with the channels jumped and the volumes dimed it screams just like it should. My Boogie can get louder and has more headroom, but this is a different kind of animal. I can't wait to put a drive pedal in front of this amp (or the Boogie for that matter) and REALLY see what it can do.
So... yep. There it is! I'll have to get some better pics for my files and the Post Your Rig threads.
