NAD x 2

Re: NAD x 2

it's like the Bogner was a one-celled organism that fissioned into 2 organisms -- but a mutation was introduced that added the trem and verb genes, resulting in the longevity of the species or something

If this post was a woman, I'd have awkward, disappointing sex with it.

Re: NAD x 2

Very cool.
Nothing wrong with picking what works best for you, instead of just "what's best".
Enjoy!

Re: NAD x 2

The year Mesa discontinued the Tremoverb, I'd wondered why they did that. I did like the organic quality it had on the Recto platform.
I had a cream/cane 212 Tremoverb combo back in 95.

Re: NAD x 2

Awesome... though I have to admit, this is one of the first cases I've heard of going back from Bogner to Mesa/Marshall. I love the Trem-o-verbs, been wanting one for a while. Got an Orange AD30HTC instead. Till another day, I surmise.

Used to see it with people going from the Ubershall back to a Recto, but I don't really hear too much about that amp anymore.

Now it seems to be people bouncing back and forth between the Shiva and the ElectraDyne.

I think the price of Bogners tends to dissuade the casual guitarist from grabbing one just for the hell of it, so people tend to be a little more committed to them.

Awesome.

Those two heads with a handful of choice stompboxes is all 'ya really need besides something low-watt for domestic use.

I wanted a Trem-O head back in the day but they were discontinued... not sure why. I remember ALMOST buying the combo until I tried to move that monster. Forget it... ended up with a Dual Recto solo head in '95 or whatever it was.

There's so many great tones in the Trem-Os due to the channel cloning & rectifer choices. You could cut a whole record with one of those alone, never duplicate sounds and they'd all be great. Blackface & even some Vox-ish tones are in there if you dig for 'em...

Re: NAD x 2

That's what everyone keeps telling me, but I think it's largely over-stated. It's true that the early Rectos were better at the crunch thing, but I think the later models were better at the saturated high gain thing.

Even on the new DR Solos, I like the heavy crunch of channel 2 more than channel three's high gain sound. If I want extra saturation, I'll just go with a pedal to just bump it up a little bit for solos.

LOL! Funny stuff. The Bogner asploded itself into less refined but equally powerful forms. These two amps together just suit my needs better.

You did? I don't think I've ever heard you talk about that amp!

If I ever got another Bogner, I'd get a Shiva EL34 head with reverb. I almost bought one of those instead of the Tremo, but I liked the way the Tremo did heavy stuff better. The cleans and reverb on the Shiva are a little better but the Tremo's is no slouch either.

I am really digging the range these amps cover... even the Recto alone covers a big amount of ground with the channel cloning and mode switches. I agree with you in that it's a ***** to haul around, though. I've found the blackface tones, and I'm working on how to tweak the mid-gain sounds. The EQ on the amp seems to be more effective and more flexible than the EQ on the DR solos, but that might just be my cab.

Re: NAD x 2

With the Mesa Tremoverb combo, I felt that the gain channel in a combo was too boxy sounding, which is usually my opinion of gain in a combo....I like head/cabs better for that. The clean channel always had a grainy....broken speaker type of sound to me, so I sold the amp.

What I replaced it with was a bunch of Fender/Dumble clones by Blues Pearl, when I got a cost deal endorsement with them. I loved those for a few years, then moved to Bogner/Matchless.

I would have liked the Tremoverb more with a head/cab setup. The combo just didn't suit me much.

I love my Ecstasy, but wish I could experiment more with speakers.
The 412 Vintage 30 cab sounds fine to me, but it's too middy with the 212 cab. I need to load that 212 with some other speakers to really get what I'm looking for.....maybe an H30 and G75T?

Interesting about the clean channel. Mine's nice and sparkly and stays that way until the gain hits about 7.

G12T75's mixed with V30s or H30s sounded best to me for my Bogner. The midrange tended to be too aggressive at times and mixing speakers helped extend the tonal range of the amp and level out the mids.
