NAD: Yammy THR10 x2

Re: NAD: Yammy THR10 x2

Wow, very cool! I always liked the Classic version. I wonder if it is just a firmware update that changes the versions, or if yours, the metal one, and the Classic are 3 different designs.

Re: NAD: Yammy THR10 x2

Or a better speaker cab. I bet it would sound great through a half back 1X12.

Yup. It does. I already tried it through my 12" cab. (We're referring to the Vox MV50 here.)

I wondered the same about the little Vox series. It's funny how similar, and yet different, these two little amps are.

Re: NAD: Yammy THR10 x2

I have a THR10C - the dark blue one thats meant to mimic boutique amps or something.. It sounds amazing and sits on my desk so I can plug in and play instead of working.

Has anyone a/b'd a THR against a Vox Adio? I was nearly gonna get the Adio instead but they weren't available at the time..

Sounds like Christmas is early in the Artie home. Congrats. Sounds like a lot of fun.

2 stereo Yammies? So you can jam in quad now?

The Yamahas are digital, so yes, the difference is probably just the firmware.

The Voxes are analog, no firmware, the differences are in the components.

Funny you should say that. That's exactly what I'm going to try. Even if only temporarily, just to hear what it sounds like. I've got several guitar front-ends, such as a Vox ToneLab, Boss GT-001, Yammy MagicStomp, (on loan), and several others, that are all mono in, stereo out. It could make a killer little desktop system to run stereo into twin stereo. As soon as I get the PS for the one that was missing, I'll give her a try.

Btw, to anyone who has the older v1 version, there's a firmware upgrade to bring it up to v2. It's supposedly better cab and amp sims. They used multiple mics instead of just one for the cab sims. Most people, (not all), say it's a marked improvement. I can't say because both of mine are the newer v2. The update is only for the "cream" THR10 and THR5. The "C" and "X" versions were born as v2's.

Sounds like Christmas is early in the Artie home.

In a way, you're right. It was an unbelievable sale. They just wanted stuff out of there. I haven't even mentioned my best score because I didn't want to overload the forum with "new stuff day" posts. The total I spent was less than the cost of one lower line tube amp.

(And the last item is a nice 40-watt tube combo, with a nameplate that begins with "B".) ;)

I have the THR10 and it's a really great practice amp. I do wish it had a foot switch though, if just to go from clean to dirty.

I see that someone has made an aftermarket one, but it's 70% the cost of the amp itself.

Aftermarket footswitch? Link? Not sure how that would work.

Re: NAD: Yammy THR10 x2

Don't forget that there is a software editor, and firmware that can be updated to V2. You might also be able to transform it into another amp with the right firmware, too.

Re: NAD: Yammy THR10 x2

I doubt it. There's a dedicated THR forum over at YamahaMusicians.com, and I've not found any threads that suggest that capability. If it could, I'm guessing it would be a hot topic. It's only upgrading to V2 that's mentioned.

Re: NAD: Yammy THR10 x2

Really sweet scores. I've been sorta interested in these and then I listened to clips of the THR10 and I was mightily impressed. I listened to the clips of all the models actually but I like the 10 best.

Re: NAD: Yammy THR10 x2

And it has just a little too much "homemade" look to it. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just not something I'd invest that kind of money for.

Re: NAD: Yammy THR10 x2

I'm sure it is homemade, and for a very small market which limits the ability to do "real" production. What you are really paying for is this guy's time that he spend to develop the code to work across the USB interface (that's the only way in and out of the THR10s) to be able to function as a footswitch.

Again, IMHO, if you are looking for that kind of functionality, the THR10 is probably not the product you should be looking at.

Re: NAD: Yammy THR10 x2

Understood, just throwing in my worthless <$0.02... and was using "you" generically

Re: NAD: Yammy THR10 x2

:D It's still a cool idea. Lot's of work went into that. I'm working on a switcher myself, but taking a completely different tack.

Re: NAD: Yammy THR10 x2

That would work short term, but I'm probably going to sell one of these. I really don't need two. Maybe.
