NAD

Re: NAD

1) What all amps do you have now?
2) Would the MKV get that Stilelleto Ace sound too?
3) Would you consider the Stiletto Ace a good transition amp w/ enough high gain for one whom has never played anything beyond a Hot Rod marshall but wants to get something more modern and higher gain, but might be overwhelmed by a super High gain tight amp?.

Dual Recto (2ch), Roadster, Mark V, Electra-Dyne, Stiletto.

Not a chance. I could probably get something close, but the Ace has more sag than the Mark V.

IMO, the Stiletto is good for someone who wants a modded Marshall kind of vibe, but isn't picky about whether it sounds like a Marshall... 'cause it's definitely Boogie flavoured. To me it has a bit of a garage/punk vibe... but that may be my personal tastes. Someone else may think it sounds like something else.

The Stiletto does have a fair bit of compression when you dial it in for compression and I personally find it a pretty easy amp to play. If you go this route I would maybe try it with a couple of different Marshall cabs. The Mesa cabs sound nice... but tend to sound kind of stiff and clear with this particular amp.

Thats one hell of an amazing collection right there. Wow.You must pull down some serious jack.
How is the Roadster different from the Roadster 2? Thats one amp I've been really interested in.

Re: NAD

Oh..then allow me to rephrase this..

Ah.

Dual Recto (2ch) and Roadster.

The biggest difference is that the Roadster has 4 channels and the Dual Recto only has two.

Beyond that, they're both Rectifiers. Most of the differences in tone are present, yet relatively overstated. At the end of the day they both sound like Rectifiers, only one (the Roadster) has way more features, a better clean channel and is actually able to produce a good lead tone.

Re: NAD

I did a couple of clips with the amp running through an Orange 4x12. TWo G12M-25s on top of Two Mesa V30s.

Stiletto with an SM57 on one of the G12Ms.

And, for the fun of it... a Recto through the same speaker

cool! nice melvins choice. both clips definitely have that mesa sound. I like the stilletto better for that song, but obviously the recto would shine more, if playing the extreme metal

I think the Recto needs new tubes. It was really hard to get any harmonics to pop without it getting harsh, so the results were rather dull. I've kind of had the feeling for awhile, but after putting it under the microscope this way it's a little more obvious.

The Stiletto/G12M really impressed me. I don't get to hear it the way the mic heard it due the cab being a G12M/V30 mix, but I think I'm going to swap out the V30s for two more G12Ms once I get the money. They add just the right amount of rattiness to the sound, and there's some cool speaker compression on the bottom end when I palm mute.

Re: NAD

congrats! thats really sharp! Ive never gotten good sound with any Mesa Ive tried. (Im SURE its just that I havent had the time to work with it) EXCEPT a stilletto. And it sounded pretty tasty. Im sure woulda been better if I dialed it in too

will check the clips l8tr

Re: NAD

You have a pre-500 Solo? You lucky bastard.

I've played through one of those a few times. They sound freaking amazing.

~1200. Rev F w/ Mark III transformers.

A little brighter and tighter than a standard Recto, without the extended bottom end they added with the Rev G and carried through to this day.

Hmm. I thought that any Dual Rec with the voicing switches on the back was pre-500. Either way, sounds like a hell of an amp.

Carry on.
