NAD

Found this on Craigslist for less than $400. That includes the FVB short board controller. Going to have to download the owners manual for this one. So far though it sounds impressive and I think it will suffice to replace my currently defunct Carvin.

Re: NAD

How does it compare to your (once working) Carvin? I hadn't tried any of the L6 heads, so I am sort of in the dark with them. A manual is a great idea.

Re: NAD

It's a lot more complex for one. I have have to say, it's got some fantastic tones, but it's going to take some getting used to.

Re: NAD

I played one of those at a gig once.. another band had asked me to jam a cover with them. It was the house amp & I got a pretty sweet tone out of it (with some help from the soundguy :laugh2: ..there's a bit of a learning curve as you said) ...Congrats & enjoy!

Re: NAD

Oh, and it didn't come with the FVB short board. It's one of the original FVB's. One thing that I have to figure out is how to make sure that the volume difference between presets doesn't change so drastically.

Re: NAD

The amp does have a lot of moving parts on the front panel. Once you play with it a bit I am sure you are going to find more than a few killer tones.

Re: NAD

Spent some time with it last night. My biggest initial issue is that sometime in it's previous life, someone must have messed with some of the factory presets resulting in a huge volume difference between some of them. After browsing the owners manual, I know enough to be able to adjust the various presets so that I can toggle between them without blowing my speakers, or ears. So that's going to be my first project. I did two banks last night. So that's 8 presets out of 128. But from how the ones I fixed sound, it'll be worth it.

Re: NAD

There isnt a factory reset? I would Google a factory reset for the amp and bring it back to day one. I typically do that with all of my 2nd hand programable gear.

Re: NAD

Yeah, anything like that that I buy gets a factory reset. However, I've had presets on L6 gear have very different volumes. My HD500 had that.

Re: NAD

I'll look into it. The problem I may run into is that it came with the older FBV foot control that lacks a USB port. It still functions with the amp, but I don't think that it will take updates. Worst case, I will just have to take the time to manually set all the levels.

Re: NAD

Dude thats awesome! Im happy for you! How much of a drastic change did your tone have?
I really dislike having to start fresh like that, but sometimes it has to happen, and sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise in the respects that it may inspire and refresh you. On the flip side, it can also make you hate yourself and want to burn everything. Lets hope that isnt the case. Haha

Re: NAD

There are a master volume and presence control. There is also a channel volume. If I can figure out how to do the factory reset, I certainly will. I know that the presets have been changed from the originals, at least on some of them. I have a hard time believing that it would come from the factory like that. Somewhere in it's past history someone tweaked some of the presets without knowing what they were doing. One of them had a distortion stomp box parameter with the volume maxed. I couldn't adjust it until I realized that it was the problem.

Re: NAD

Had one at the store years ago...probably the best line 6 amp I've played, but I still did not get along with it. Everyone was drooling because the power amp was designed by Bogner...I digress, if you like it then ****in eh!

As for the factory reset (hold down A while turning it on) I'd start there. Although on many modelers (can't recall about this one specifically) this is a common problem with presets.

Re: NAD

I will say that for the couple of banks that I got the volume set right on, I think it has fantastic tone. I look at the fact that it's designed by Bogner the same as I do with Jet City and Soldano: I'll never be able to afford a genuine one of either.
I'm running it through my 4x12 Carvin cab with the much maligned 12M-70's and loving it.

Re: NAD

Here's a question that I'll put out there: If the firmware has been updated, will that go away if I restore the factory presets?

Good question...I'm not sure. Even if it does it should be easy to re-update again, I would think.
I'd bet the guys on the line 6 forum could get you a definite answer....

Re: NAD

It would be easy enough if I had the right footboard. But I have one of the older ones that doesn't seem to have the USB port.
For now I think that I'll continue manually adjusting the channel volumes until I get a definite answer.

Re: NAD

Factory reset should not affect firmware version, that kind of defeats the point. :)

I played a Line 6 head that looked like this about 3 weeks ago at rehearsal: ie, the head looked like that with the matching 4x12. I don't know anything about Line 6 so it was basic adjustments only.

It definitely got the job done if not my particular cup of tea.
