Name That Mystery Pup

Re: Name That Mystery Pup

I doubt it's a Dimarzio. I have never seen a Dimarzio with a 3 screw baseplate.

Re: Name That Mystery Pup

whatever it is, it's effing ugly.
i've never seen a pickup like it; the 3 mount brackets/legs, black case and what looks like 12 slug poles make for a pretty unique combination

Re: Name That Mystery Pup

Looks like something Japanese fron the nineteen seventies. The three leg mounting is very distinctive. I'm thinking Hondo, Antoria, CMI, lawsuit-era Ibanez, that sort of thing.

That's what I was thinking. I've never seen a three legged pickup, but there was some funky one off stuff coming out of Japan in the seventies.

Re: Name That Mystery Pup

I can't click the link at work, but from the three mount comment I'm thinking it's a Super70 or 80, something Ibanez.

Re: Name That Mystery Pup

I have eight similar p'ups that came from two japanese and two Korean guitars, dating late '70, early '80.

The three-legged baseplate is new for me, though; anyway NOT a good thing unfortunately.

They vary from 8.0K to 11.75K, all were assembled with not-so-good materials and ceramic mags and, due to their "funny" construction, they squeal like pigs and they don't have good tone.

Can be used as fancy paperweight, though.

HTH,

U can rule out ibanez super 70. It def is NOT that. It looks to me like a generic non brand POS pu. The magnet is most likely ceramic. I doubt it is a al 8. Cant help beyond that...

Some of the late 80s/early 90s import BC Rich guitars had 3 screw baseplates, but I don't think they were spaced that far apart on the side with two screws. (They also had gray or brown wires that I remember.)
