NAMM 2014 Guitars

[Diminished Triad]

This is a very special guitar produced specifically for the 2014 NAMM show. 1 OFF!

I've read similar advertising statements for guitars for years but have yet to see or play one. I'm sure the point is Fender or others only bring their best for NAMM, and especially if from the Custom Shop the implication is "this guitar was made to show off at NAMM."

For those who may know, just two questions:
1. Are these guitars actually for sale at NAMM or do buyers find them through retailers later and then resale them on Ebay etc?
2. I know the pricing is high, many times unreasonable, but notwithstanding the prices, are the guitars really representative of the best the company makes for the year (for that individual model)?

I see dealers get hold of them and they are obtainable by players from there.

Pretty much all the NAMM guitars are for sale to dealers at the show.

At the end of the show, everything is for sale. No one wants to drag that stuff back home. Thing is, those one-offs are so expensive, you'd have to be a store to afford them anyway.

Something I learned by accident is just before NAMM all the vendors are preparing their stuff to show, but they are still in business and won't refuse a sale if it comes in, so if you order something a week or two before NAMM, you can get a clean, well-crafted (or refurbished historic) showpiece gear item for an obtainable price.

Normally they arent necessarily any better... just usually a mix of unusual features so you go...

NAMM guitars are often special with better woods or hardware, or showcasing a new design, or a tie-in to a promotion, or something special designed to get the attention of passersby. Minimally, they're all set up to play great. The irony is that the NAMM environment is often one of the worst places to actually hear a guitar--unless the exhibitor has a sound room.

Exhibitors generally sell their products to dealers only. Attendees can often buy t-shirts and swag for cash, but that's about it. If an exhibitor sells a product direct to an attendee on the show floor, it's technically a no-no and they could get into trouble with NAMM for it. NAMM's primary mission is to protect dealers.

That said, deals happen.
