Nash guitars, worth it?

Re: Nash guitars, worth it?

I have always wanted a Nash Strat with Lollars. I saw Ronnie Earl play one, and I didn't realize what it was at first. It had great tone, and was aged pretty tastefully. I really like the Les Pauls, but they want outrageous coin for those.

Re: Nash guitars, worth it?

Some will say it's just an aged "partscaster", but aren't all Fenders partscasters? You are paying for the relic job and the benefits of that are certainly up for debate. You could probably get a Musikraft/Warmoth for less and tung oil the neck for the same easy playing benefits, but then it's up to you to do all the assembly and setup.

Kramersteen's post is exactly correct.... If you like the specific guitar and it's worth the price to you, go for it!

Re: Nash guitars, worth it?

Well, I really like the guitar. Played it thru a Backstair HT40, and it sounded similar to my DSL, and the guit sounded wonderful. So, if I can do the horse trading I need to do, I'll try it

Re: Nash guitars, worth it?

I've liked all the Nash's I've played, and really want a 50's style tele.

I've been told that he doesn't make the necks or bodies, and that he buys them from an unknown manufacturer, then does all the finish work and aging of parts.

In reality, I think I'll save myself a lot of money by putting together my own, the same way he does, minus the heavy relicing. They key is choosing the same specs he does, and finding a nice light and dry body and neck. His formula is the same as the Fender Custom Shop.

Re: Nash guitars, worth it?

You may be right, GJ. The shop wants $1800 for the used one, and I can likely get a USA Fender for much less

Re: Nash guitars, worth it?

Nash does not make their own parts, I'm pretty sure they use All Parts for necks not sure if they use their bodies as well.

Nash does a great job with the finishing work and the setup, I've seen some some really decent relics from them. Lot of hank though.

Have you looked at a G&L ASAT Deluxe? For that much money, you could get a new guitar, built with your choice of custom options.

FWIW, Nash guitars always get great reviews in the guitar mags.

Re: Nash guitars, worth it?

nope.
i played a few here in sydney. to be honest i preferred a pair of older japanese fenders.
The nash axes are actually warmoth parts with a nice relic paintjob. So i bought some warmoth parts and added all the stuff that i like (my choice of pickups, my choice of bridge, my choice of woods, finish, neck radius etc) and made this for less than half the price of the nash axes:

so if you add up all the cost of parts from warmoth, and subtract it from the price of a nash....thats how much assembly and a paintjob is costing.
I found the nashes that i played to be quite heavy, whereas buying direct means i could choose the wood type, grain pattern and especially weight that suited me. In the end it was a no brainer. The nashes are nice axes sure, but at least for me they are definitely not worth the coin.

Check out MJT custom guitars if you are not the DIY kind of dude and want a relic axe built to your own specs. You can even choose all the parts from musikraft, warmoth, USACG or whoever you like and have him do the rest.

Ok, so my deal didn't square like I hoped it would. So, **** Nash, I'll either buy vintage, or something from a well familiar name

Re: Nash guitars, worth it?

Nash may use parts from other sources, but it's the final assembly, attention to detail and the fine tuning that is done that adds to the value. Not to mention the labor per hour and markup to be able to stay in business. Everybody seems to forget that part. :-)

Hmm, does this look like a nut that belongs on an $1800 USED guitar? Forget it. Nash guitars and their hipster b.s. can take a long walk. I've done better nuts on Squier instruments, especially considering the v shaped slot. Amateurish. For being this long in the production, those little details shouldn't be overlooked, especially for what they're charging.
