Nashville Tele...what pups to use?

darnright

I have access to a Nashville Tele, but it will need pups. I do not want it to sound like a strat..so what pups would you recomend? It currently has Texas special strat pups in middle and neck and Texas special Tele in bridge. All suggestions are needed. Thanks!

Re: Nashville Tele...what pups to use?

Set it up like Brent Mason's guitar.:)

Gibson mini-humbucker (neck), Duncan Hot Stack (middle), Duncan vintage lead stack (bridge).

Although I'd probably make the mini humbucker a Duncan model.

Re: Nashville Tele...what pups to use?

personally i dont like tele neck pups so i would put a firebird minihumbucker in the neck like a sm1

in the middle if you dont want a strat tone i would put a bridge lil 59 in there. that pup is really fat and toney in the middle for some reason. first time i tried it i was really surprised how good it was. if you want strat in the middle a aps2 is a cool choice, if you want quack then get a ssl1

in the bridge i would get a tapped stl2 hot tele lead (or the custom shop '53 style tapped jb for tele if you dont mind coughing up $200 for a pup)

Maple fretboard?

Five Two for Telecaster

Extremely balanced true single-coil pickup developed for Nashville studio players.

Either that or Alnico II Pro for tele (neck and middle) since I'm partial to them... :D

No experience with the Five Two's, but if I wanted to do a Nashville Tele, that's what I would do.

Re: Nashville Tele...what pups to use?

While there are many excellent choices available, I would highly recommend you contact our own Zhangliqun, zhangbucker@yahoo.com and tell him about the guitar and the sound you're after. More than likely he'll nail it first time around. Great service, amazing prices and best of all, TONE, TONE TONE!!!!

No affiliation, just a very satisfied client. I say client instead of customer because Dave will get all of my future pickup business. I've tried pretty much everything out there and while I do have several fav's, Dave's pups are tops in my book. Just my humble opinion of course and ymmv.....but do yourself a favor and give him a shout.

Okay, as a resident flunkie on this subject, I have to say that you stated what you had in the Tele and if it is indeed a Fender MIM Nashville Tele, your pickups are actually Tex-Mex and not Texas Specials. Someone could have replaced them though.

Anyway, what are you looking for? What tones, vibe, output, look, all that...
