Nazgul or Black Winter?

Hey guys. So I'm looking for a new pickup for my guitar. Right now there's a stock J90C and J50N in the bridge and neck, respectively. I've decided I wanted to customize my guitar and I'm having trouble deciding between the Nazgul and the Black Winter. I really like the tone of both and kind of prefer the look of the Nazgul. My guitar has a poplar body and a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. Which do you think would be better for that body? I asked this on a couple of other places and one guy said that the Nazgul would be a bit bright sounding with my guitar. Thanks in advance for the help. Also, if anyone has a DI track of both of these so I can test that with my gear, that'd be great.

Re: Nazgul or Black Winter?

What tone are you looking for? To my ear the Black Winter has more of a classic black metal bite with the lows dialed back with more compression. The Nazgul seems like it has a beefier low end, more open sounding and a little more grind to the tone.

I really like the how the Black Winter neck pickup sounds, even compared to the neck position classics like the '59, Pearly Gates, etc...

I'm looking for something decent for death metal. This is my music https://soundcloud.com/phrygianmetal/the-storm it's sort of the ballpark tone I'm going for but I'd like a tighter, grindy sound.

Black Winter is the one I'd pick then, that clip is more old school compressed sounding. That guitar sounds like an SH-8 Invader to me.

The Nazgul is more modern and open sounding than that tone to me..

Thank you for the advice; I will go with the Black Winter then.

Re: Nazgul or Black Winter?

Get the set and save some dough instead of buying them separate if you go this way.

Sure, okay. Again, thank you for the help. As for the Bare Knuckle Aftermath; I have checked it out and I do like it, I just really prefer the Seymour Duncan pickups. Have a good day/night.
