NBD - Custom Walnut Strat

Re: NBD - Custom Walnut Strat

Yeah, I had to make my own routing template (first time obviously) and then of course forgot to clamp it in two points. It will be fine and you wont be able to tell underneath the the mounting ring!

Oh well not to worry, I always **** up things too. I have some nice wood single coil mounting rings, but you are using metal right?

Re: NBD - Custom Walnut Strat

I love the beautiful yet punchy midrange tone that comes from walnut.
The large (heavy mass type) forged tail piece assembly creates great sustain and more high end treble available.

Re: NBD - Custom Walnut Strat

I'm using a tailpiece combo from Schaller for this one. Direct bolt onto the body.

Re: NBD - Custom Walnut Strat

That should be great. Although I'm not a fan of Warmoth truss rod...it slows the vibrations too much and creates a thuddy effect.
Knowing that now means you can chose other places in the build to add crispness and speed.

Re: NBD - Custom Walnut Strat

Looks great. What's the weight of the body without the hardware on it?

Re: NBD - Custom Walnut Strat

With the bevel its comfortable enough I don't really need one. Plus I like the way this looks as is. Also there are four layers of Tung Oil on it haha

Sounds a bit crazy bro, But i would recommend assembling the guitar even with one pickup/simple wiring just so you have some idea of how it will play and feel. It will also give you a chance to make any body mods if you need.

Re: NBD - Custom Walnut Strat

Eh, not bad, probably about 4 or 5 lbs. The whole thing probably will weigh about 6 or 7 lbs total

That's good. My father-in-law has a big walnut stump that I'm looking at making a couple bodies from. He's got everything I'll need to cut, plane and route it.
