I actually picked this up a couple of weeks ago; a Sterling SUB4 string in trans black. It has a very solid feel and sounds really nice. I have never had a bass with rosewood fingerboard before; it really sounds different. I compared the same bass, one with maple and one with rosewood.The maple had more midrange and more snap; the rosewood was warmer/darker.

The current SUB4 is available in several transparent finishes. The grain on Agathis is highly variable. TO struck lucky with that example.

Correct. Three band active EQ can help the Stingray type pickup sound Precision-ish. Well, almost.

Sweet bass TO! I gigged and recorded with a Music Man SUB Stingray style bass about a decade ago now. I loved that bass and I miss it. You scored a nice bass for sure.

It has a 34" scale length, which is perfect for me. Neck is very comfy and the active EQ makes it very versatile.

I picked up an OLP Musicman for about $120, and it sounds really good. I even swapped out the pup for a Bartolini, and was surprised by how little difference it made.

I think the OLPs were market testing for the SUB line... would love to get my hands on a USA SUB (which is probably what SnakeAces gigged with - these import SUBs have only been out a tear or two, so far as I know).

Also would have been tickled if Sterling Ball had been a little more original in his choice of names. Just sayin'.

Honestly, I think it'd look better against the Pokemon set.

It has a 34" scale length, which is perfect for me.

I hardly play my Mustang because it feels like a toy--or worse--a guitar.

Yeah, it was a USA made SUB. I would be interested in getting my hands on an import one to draw some comparisons.

I have been recording with it the last couple of weeks. It has an exceptional DI tone that I really like. The low frequencies are also very tight and overall the DI is very easy to EQ and get where I need it to be. Since my songs frequently switch keys, I often mult the bass track and EQ each one separately. (The fundamental and harmonic frequncies shift depending on key) This bass handles that quite well without sounding like a different bass guitar in each section...
