NCD - New camera day (guitar photos)

Re: NCD - New camera day (guitar photos)

BTW...I shoot Pentax myself (currently using the K3, while my wife shoots my older K30).

My 17-50 f/2.8 Tamron and my Sigma 50-150 f/2.8 are my go-to lenses for absolutely everything outside of really bad weather and situations where I really need to reach in from a long distance. Food, Architecture, Head Shots, Stage Performances, Family Photo Shoots, you name it...a few bucks spent wisely early on can really bring a higher level of enjoyment and better chance of success to your photography.

Congrats to you and your girlfriend!

FUNNY how we all differ sooo much !

Lately, the Nikon 105 has almost become my 'go-to' lens !

And to think i never wanted this lens.
I was looking for this one, the ultra sexy 135 Defocus Control beast !
I could not find one, so i bought the newer 105 as a far distant 2nd option . . . and was pleasantly surprised by it's performance !

<--- i still want one though !

It's crazy how similar photography is to playing guitar...it's artistic and creative at its core, highly technical in its application, what's "best" for any given purpose is highly subjective and very personal, it's hard to avoid "G.A.S." once you get started and it takes a lot of time and practice to truly master it!

That 105mm is great! I have a couple nice prime lenses in the 35-105 range for use in more controlled environments, special situations where I need the absolute best image quality I can get or when I just feel like messing around with a fixed focal length for fun. It's hard to beat the versatility of the zooms I mentioned (they are top-quality glass, not "all-in-one" consumer type zooms), but I rarely leave home without at least one prime in the bag.

Speaking of bags, when I'm carrying a minimal kit (Camera + 1-2 lenses and some simple accessories) and need something that doesn't scream "photography equipment inside", I have grown to absolutely LOVE the original Lowepro "Passport" Sling! I used it in an urban setting for a solid month before spending 2 grueling weeks traveling across Asia in November and was quite impressed. My wife liked mine so much that we got her one before we left. She took out the camera insert (we only took one DSLR overseas) and she used her bag as a regular satchel the whole time. Love the fact that it expands when you need it to and collapses back to a smaller size when you don't need the extra room. If the OP is looking for a nice basic bag to give the girlfriend for her new camera, I can't recommend the Lowepro Passport enough:

You have manual transmissions in America ?

Of course we do! That's the same question they ask me here in Europe. Besides the two trucks I've owned all my other cars have been 5 or 6 speed manual transmissions. Toyota Supra, Nissan 300zx, VW 24v VR6 GTI, VW Jetta GLI, a few other VW GTI's, BMW 328iS, Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, and I was trying to piece together a nice 5 speed kit for my Dodge Ram before I sold it and moved to Europe. My brother threw a Supra manual transmission in a V8 Lexus LS400 which is pretty sweet.

I'm a manual transmission guy myself, I love the feel they have. Especially with RWD cars. The VW's had a bit too much torque steer sometimes but they were still fun. Now I walk everywhere because owning even a halfway decent motor in Greece is taxed to hell and back.

That looks pretty decent for a bag. Thanks for the tips and the congrats in your earlier post as well. I already bought her a decent DSLR camera bag or else I would check these out. I can't seem to locate the bag link but it's a Tamrac DSLR bag. It was about $55 but it's pretty decent.

So what are you doing in Greece ?
