since i got my mesa boogie dual rectifier, my tone has been about 80% of what ive heard in my head. but i just couldnt get along with the presence controls on the two gain channels. the orange channel was close, but i just couldnt find a use for the red channel. it was way too fizzy. i loved the tone but i just wasnt completely happy with it. also i was getting mighty tired of moving my mesa 412 around

enter the orange 212

even though its the same speakers, the darker sounding cab made the difference. this was the sound i wanted out of my recto all along. somehow it even had more low end than the 412! i was able to turn the presence up which really opens up the amp. the cleans are warm and smooth, and the red and orange channels are godly now! and i can even fit my rig in my car now!

oddly enough though, my mesa dual recto loves my orange 212, while my orange jim root terror prefers my mesa 412 over the orange 212

Re: NCD Orange PPC212

I've heard that Orange cabs are darker, but a low sitting 2x12 will always sound less fizzy and thick since it's so far from the height of your ears. Plus those cabs have great horizontal feet that help the cab to get major bass reflection off the floor.

I think that slightly darker feel the orange had makes all the difference. I'm comptenplating selling my Mesa 412 and getti g another 212, maybe a Mesa this time. This way I have a good mix while being able to fit the rig in my car still

Re: NCD Orange PPC212

I really want another 212PPC to make a double decker 412. that and neodymiums for lightweight transport are the number one priority for me now over small combos and other gear

Re: NCD Orange PPC212

I think Orange cabs are dark due to the dense grill cloth they use.
Try to put a piece of cloth (like a t-shirt) in front of your mesa cab and compare both sounds.
