NCMGD: New Cheap Modified Guitar Day

Hey guys.

I mentioned in my recent Kahler Trem Query thread that I had a new guitar coming, well here it is for anyone that's interested

(The pictures are taken from the Ebay auction as they were better than photos I tried to take)

I don't think I really need to say what it is :D It's been modified with a MIA Kahler Flyer Tremolo system and the pickup is a Dimarzio Super Distortion.

I bought it mainly for a joke to use with my 70s style Punk band or with my 80s style Rock/Metal band.

I know the idea of using it for heavier music has been done to death, I just thought I'd give it a try for a laugh.

Man, I NEED a Hello Kitty Strat! Seriously!
Btw, to keep with the "joke" vibe of yours, you should replace that ugly volume knob with a chromed skull or something.

Re: NCMGD: New Cheap Modified Guitar Day

Pickup needs to be white.

Aaaaaaand?

OK :wrf:

I've not gotten as far as to thinking about anything like that tbh. My 1st thing is to get it restrung with 10s and re-setup the tremolo and then think of stuff like hardware.

I do have some thoughts about the scratchplate though...........

I agree. I may throw a white EMG 81 in there at somepoint as it's not the nicest sounding piece of wood I've ever come across, but this will do for now I think.

Psykel. eBay UK seems to be swarming with Squier Hello Kitty Strats at the moment. Most of them are stock (nasty humbucker, hardtail bridge). A few are regular pink Squier Affinity Stratocasters to which Hello Kitty stickers have been added in a crude attempt to cash in on the craze.

I was just wondering what you thought of it... you kinda left your impression of it out of the post... that's all... jeez...

Sorry if I offended mate, I just wasn't sure what you were asking.

It's ok, that's about the best I can say at the minute really.

The current strings on it are a bit light for me, 9s whereas I use atleast 10s if not 11s, and the whole setup could do with a bit of a tweak to get it more towards how I like things.

Just by the nature of it it's not going to rival some of my other guitars tonally, but for the £112 I paid for it and as I bought it as a bit of a joke it's perfectly fine :D

Re: NCMGD: New Cheap Modified Guitar Day

I have never used a kahler but can some one en light me as to why is the locking nut behind the NUT. Wont that defeat the purpose?

Cool, man. If they made those in lefty, I'd own one by now.

Considering the upgrades, it sounds like you got a great deal. Congrats and enjoy! :beerchug:

I "think" Floyd might have the dibs on the "on the nut" lock, but hold me to that...

Pretty sure most of the Kahlers were set up like that(behind the nut).

Re: NCMGD: New Cheap Modified Guitar Day

I don't know why you would've done that. There's a lot of demand for those guitars due to their rarity here in the USA. I've seen them go anywhere from 2-500 bucks depending on condition and if they're still in the original box. You could've sold that for at least IMO, at least 2-300 bucks and gotten yourself something halfway decent.

Re: NCMGD: New Cheap Modified Guitar Day

The Kahler behind-the-nut clamp designs are partially due to what Floyd Rose had already patented and partly because not all guitars are suitable for having a whole bunch of wood removed from the nut area.

My own approach when retrofitting a Kahler flatmount vibrato system to a Fender guitar was to employ locking machineheads.

I bought the guitar already modified.

This is by no means my best guitar and it won't be my main player either.

I really like it, I figured the Super D would work great in an Agathis body, I really liked the xl500 in my old Agathis BC Rich....the perfect pup for a dark guitar IMO...
