Neck Humbucker in the Bridge?

Re: Neck Humbucker in the Bridge?

I put a Gibson 490R in the neck of my LP early on...It had quite a bit of glass on it, but not too terrible. I kinda liked it, but some would've found it icepicky.

Ah. That's cool. Just find the thread when you're home and have a listen.

Thanks a bunch for the help, man. I appreciate it. :)

Cheers. :beerchug:

Re: Neck Humbucker in the Bridge?

Depends on the pickup. Old Gibsons were all just humbuckers, not really neck or bridge. I kinda think that makes em easy to balance the tone, but a guy named EVH might disagree.

I loved my 57 classics (yes, loved). I love Burstbuckers (more than the pros), but I can tell you a neck model most often is an underwound version of the bridge pickup or a facsimile of this concept. I had T Tops sound a tad bright and spiky when used taken from the neck and swapped to the bridge. I have tried some Dimarzio neck models in the bridge and found it regrettable. Too smooth, lack of power. I play with some rude sounding drummers (a good thing!) and neck models in the bridge just don't tend to always have the balls I want.

Hell, I wish I could use a Matchless 20-30 watt or a Budda outside the studio for Hard Rock, but with low watts and weak pickups I have gotten eaten for lunch. Now a Custom, JB, Air Zone, Super Distortion thru a mid gain set Marshall, you are driving a 550 engine in an American Muscle car, so to speak!
