Neck humbucker

What is the more bright and clear neck humbucker that Duncan made? Generally I find a lot of neck humbucker muddy and dark. Is there a SD hb who don't have this defects?

I play pop, classic rock, blues, fusion and jazz.

Thanks

IME, the arguably "best" neck p'up is the Seth Lover.

An A2 modded Jazz neck is the most articulated.

Any A3, Paf-like neck p'up is not prone to mud.

Any neck p'up setup alright is not prone to mud.

HTH,

A Duncan Custom wired in parallel and installed in the neck.....Bright, clear and chimey! Trust me......

Without knowing the identity of the host instrument, it is difficult to say.

In the spirit that this thread appears to be intended, my vote goes to the Pearly Gates.

Re: Neck humbucker

Sorry, my guitar is superstrat with basswood body with 5 mm maple top, and maple/rw neck.

I use a barfuss PAF hb in it... but I find it too muddy...

Re: Neck humbucker

for a guitar like that...

1st - Jazz
2nd - '59

both are even better with polished alnico 4 mags

if you are up for a DiMarzio, try the Humbucker From Hell

Get a good setup, then. Better done by a pro!

Barfuss p'ups are of the highest quality, so I'd say it's NOT the p'up...

Do you use a LP or that double-cut Yamaha in your avatar?

The OP wants 'bright and clear', and PGN's are not that. Smooth and rounded on top with lots of mids.

OP = original poster (person who started the thread). That's you!

I agree with blueman335. My first thought when I saw "bright and clear" was the Jazz. Bright and clear is what a Jazz is!

Re: Neck humbucker

If you think most duncan neck pickups are dark and muddy, you need to adjust the pickup. My favorite neck pickup is a '59n with an alnico 4 magnet. It's gets a sort of Steve Vai type tone, except slightly less thin.

IMO, that would be the Jazz Neck. Sounds like a 59N but a little clearer and a little more sparkle up on top.

But my favorite, and the one I use, is the Pearly Gates Neck.

I play music similar to what you describe....but more blues & jazz.
