thanks Paul..

Well, after doing some "research", I think the 59 is more of what I need.

I can always sell it or trade it for a Jazz if i dont like it.

If you buy it new, Duncan has a return policy. If you don't like it, you can take it back and get a different Duncan......:)

Re: Neck Pickup for Lespaul??

The '59 is thick allright! I do wish it had a little more output but I compensated with 2 ceramics on the bottomplate, works well for metal. Maybe a demon in the neck would also work? I've heard some good things about it.

I agree with you, Doc. The Gibson 496R is a fine neck pickup !!! For Duncans, I prefer the Jazz.

Cool! Gald to see a knowledgable member of our community supporting my thoughts.

Many people don't spend enough time to adjust to it. Afterall Warren Hayes was using it for a while in Mule. It can't be that bad no?

As far as my experience goes, it is the best PAF type ceramic mag pickup there is. Pricey yet still very good.

That said, I have to admit that I'd go for PGs over 496r's in an instant.

'59n is awesome in a mahogany body. You'll get that fat smooth jazz tone which is great for soloing and sounds just as good with lots of gain.

For some odd reason the local shop that sells new duncans does have that return policy. I was gonna buy the Custom SH-5 new but after they told me that, I said I'd buy it used.

Hmm.. Demon in the neck?? that might be an idea. Well, will it work well though? or is it mainly a bridge pickup?

thanks,
Duke

Re: Neck Pickup for Lespaul??

did you consider an APH-1? I know that you are looking for something with maybe a higher output, but that's what Slash uses, and he gets a very high quality tone with high output.
