Neck pickup in a les paul

Re: Neck pickup in a les paul

I would go for the Slash signature neck in most applications, its just about the best puckup I've ever played.

Actually the A2Pn is pretty good, more high end than a PGN, and not as warm as a Slash neck (I prefer neck PU's with some bite to them).

I had a set of A2P in a Goldtop Les PAul, but I found the sound too thin, and a bit unresponsive when cranked for my tastes. Lovely sound when playing with mid boosted cleans though.

Re: Neck pickup in a les paul

I've tried a lot of Les Paul neck pickups. I'm never satisfied. The most satisfied I've ever been with a neck humbucker in a Les Paul is an A2P, but I've never tried a Pearly Gates. The A2P was really nice and buttery, but I prefer A5 magnet sound. The Jazz was too lifeless. I've never found an A5 humbucker for the neck that I like, but the closest has been the Burstbucker Pro.

The best neck pickup for a Les Paul that I've tried is the GFS Mean90.

Still looking for a humbucker neck pickup solution for my other Les Paul, though. If anybody knows of something A5 that's tighter on the bottom than an A2P, less boring than a Jazz and with more top end bite than a Burstbucker Pro. If not, I might just buy another Mean90 or humbucker sized P90. Also considering trying a GFS Retrotron or Lollartron.
