Neck pickup: Seth Lover vs '59

I know the theoretical differences. For those who have actually tried them in the neck position of an SG, how do you compare the tone and feel of the Seth Lover vs the '59? Thanks:)

Re: Neck pickup: Seth Lover vs '59

'59N's do great in SG's. Not as well in LP's (kind of boomy), which is where I like my Seth's best.

Re: Neck pickup: Seth Lover vs '59

i have had both in an epiphone les paul, and they are pretty similar. the 59 is a little boomier/creamier, the seth lover is a little clearer/with maybe a flatter eq, if that makes sense.

the feel of the seth lovers is better, they are more 3d, the tone changes with volume and pick attack more with these than the 59 set.

you should do the 50's wiring mod if you haven't already

I'd love to hear more on this subject as well. I'm very happy with my 59 set, but I'm intrigued by the Seths or unpotted 59s.

So what is all this talk of 50's wiring? Is it a certain way to soilder up the pathways of the wires? caps? certail ohm pots? If so. Where do you get diagrams?? ron

Re: Neck pickup: Seth Lover vs '59

I generally prefer Seth's or PG's in the neck slot of thick sounding mahogany guitars like LP's and even PRS. The 59's are a better fit for thinner sounding bolt on neck types like Strats or most Ibanez guitars. The extra low end of a 59 fills out the sound on those nicely

Google 50's wiring, or the My Les Paul pickup forum has a sticky on wiring diagrams.

The cap is wired to the output of the volume pot rather than the input. It generally adds clarity, plus keeping the highs when rolling off the volume pot.
