hi guys so i got my schecter solo 6 classic... i love the guitar... it has a sd custom custom on the bridge... awesome pickup...now the neck is a duncan 59...this is where my prob starts...

i play heavy music(think sevendust)...most of my solos and chugs are on the bridge pick up..im happy with the custom custom..now for the neck i use cleans this is where the 59 is not working for me..it sorta sounds scooped in a way.. i compared my gibson traditional which has a 57 classic in the neck..and it sounds rounder and has a nice pick attack to it when im playing clean bluesy stuff.
i would like to achieve a rounder/warmer tone in the neck with nice pick attack... the options i have is alnico pro II,pearly gates or slash alnico pro II...all for the neck
the fingerboard of the schecter is ebony

thanks in advance :)

i dont use my gibsons coz they are not 24 frets
i use my prs custom 24's or the schecter solo 6 classic.

Hey man, I have the custom custom and pearly gates in my guitar. Most paf style humbuckers have a mid scoop in them. The pearly gates neck pup is really really nice, and a lot will agree.I think the pgn goes perfect with the custom custom. The slash pups are really nice as well. Either options are going to have good cleans, bluesy style. It's going to be a tough decision haha, but I would say go with the pearly gates.

qaiso....thanks man...how would you describe the pearly gates??? is it round as well? when you say bite... is it what will give me that pick attach click when hitting the strings hard while bending?

A2P's have a little more treble than PGN's, which gives them a little sharper high-end. I find PGN's to be too smooth and mellow for my tastes. To me, it's an ideal jazz PU. So how warm do you want your neck PU to be?

blueman335... i guess i really liked the warmth of the 57 classic neck on my les paul...do you have experience with the 57 classic?

If you liked the warmth of the 57 classic in the neck, then I would go with an APH-1, definitely not the APH-2 cause it's barely different from an APH-1, but costs a lot more just because it's Slash's pickup

Since it appears to be a 24 fret guitar consider getting a bridge version. The little bit of extra wire helps fill out the tone, IMO. I searched for years for the right neck pup for my CU24 and found it in a PG bridge.

Just a thought.

More winds/wire is going to give you a bit more midrange. Due to the placement difference of the 24th fret compared to the 22nd you have less amplitude and a brighter sound. This is good in some ways, and bad in other ways. It makes for some really nice clean tones and articulate dirty tones, but the tone never seems to have the girth...IMO. The little bit of tonal you shift you get can help make up some of that girth...once again IMO.

there you got the term girth! im trying to chase the girth/roundness of the 22 fret gibson... and also the attack of the 57 classics...the only available neck pickup here in stores is the slash aph2...i might just give it a shot...

When you put a bridge PU in the neck slot, the first thing you notice is that you lose treble. As it is, PGN's are warm PU's with a rounded high-end. A PGB is going to be even more so. Is that what you're going for?

i dont want it to be toooo warm,,, i might loose attack...basically what i stated earlier is the 57 classic neck pickup tone is what i dig on my les paul... the store is offering me a pearly gates or a slash alnico pro II ...im still doing research as pickups are not cheap here..and we cant try em out.. once we buy thats it..no exchange policy.. i stay in the philippines

When neck PU's are too warm, you lose any kind of sharp attack. I would take the A2P in a heartbeat. I have several A2P's; I sold my PG's.

I have a Pearly Gates in the neck of my Strat. It is one of my best sounding guitars. THe PG is very round a full with a boatload of sustain. It takes to clean tones and overdriven blues tones better than any pickup I have. The PG also takes to dirt very well, the sound on the PG is amazing for rock, jazz and blues. I haver a 57 classic neck pickup in my Les Paul and while it is a great pickup the PG is a step above it in tone.

That's where PGN's are at their best, in bright guitars like Strats. The high-end is more open. Like all PU's, they'll sound different in warmer woods. I don't care for PG's in mahogany.

I'd say the pg is pretty round, great bass response, good treble cut. When I say bite I mean cutting thru, the higher strings really sing. I can't compare to the others because I've only heard them on YouTube, and others on this forum. Good luck.
