Neck P'up to match 59/Custom

In my Schecter C-1+, Mahog, maple cap. The ****leybucker is too bassy for a good match. Middle position is kind of good.

For a 24-fretter, a "lowly" '59n is hard to beat.

However, if the '59/Custom Hybrid is stock, the arguably "best" would be a hybrid made with a Jazz neck screw coil and a '59 neck slug coil, with a roughcast A5 mag, if you ask me.

HTH,

Yeah - I'd go 59.

Although a PG or a Whole Lotta neck would probably be pretty ok too. PG if too bass is your concern.

HTH,

In my dreams, if I were to ever get a signature pickup, the neck version would actually be a lower wind than either the '59 or the Jazz. It would be based on the neck pickup in my red Tele that Bryan Gunsher at BG Pups made for me. It's got an A5 magnet and mismatched coils that come in around 7K while the '59n is 7.6K and the Jazz neck is 7.5K. It's bright and could match well with in the neck with '59/C Hybrid.

I was going to suggest a 59. But, also a Sentient is a good idea. It fits squarely between the 59 and Jazz, despite its association with progressive metal players.

Tone-wise, it could be; I can't offer any hands-on experience on these; in my neck of woods they're sold only if custom-ordered, no take-back condition.

Appearance-wise, not so much. ;)

plus, why spend $20 more when the Jazz and '59 have been around and proven for decades?

Yeah, I am not a fan, either. But it can be ordered to look any way you want.

Thanks guys, it has been a little challenge to get the amp set. Always a compromise. My lap steel has a Seth Lover in the neck position and when the amp is set for it the 59/Custom sounds great but the Fuglybucker gets bassy and a little sterile. I think the PG or 59/Jazz may do what I want.

I have a whole different design philosophy regarding my rig. I don't change my amp settings, but I select the pickups in my guitars for specific sounds or otherwise build my guitars for different sounds. For instance, I might have five Floyd Rose equipped guitars, but three are Strat-shaped bodies, one is a Peavey Wolfgang, and one is an EBMM Sterling SUB AX4 (say that three times fast). The Wolfgang has stock pickups, the orange Strat is alder with the '59/C Hybrid, the RB&W one is basswood with a Custom Custom, the B&W one is northern ash with an EVH Frankenstein, and the AX4 is made of jabon and it so far has the stock pickups (although I have a set of DiMarzio D-Activators for it). That's not even getting into the Teles and other Strats. LOL They all have a different sound that works with my amps and effects differently but in ways I've been specific about.

Re: Neck P'up to match 59/Custom

I'd go with the 59n. Sounds great in my 24-fret Showmaster. And if by chance it isn't quite perfect for yours, you can tighten it up a little with an A4 magnet, or even A3. I have a custom wound A3 neck humbucker from ReWind that's one of me very favorites. I think A3 is still very underappreciated; have been feeling quite tempted to try it in a couple other neck humbuckers.

Funny I should find this. I have the same set up and had the same questions.
I read in another article that a custom 59/Jazz would be the perfect pairing with the 59/ custom.
I actually just ordered one through the custom shop. We'll see what happens!

Re: Neck P'up to match 59/Custom

Let us know how that turns out. I have had success with the Alnico II Pro and the 59/Custom Hybrid as well.

Re: Neck P'up to match 59/Custom

I did think about that too... Using the 59/Custom in the neck and and something a little more ballsy in the bridge.

Would have the best of both worlds, more modern tone with a more classic tone if needed.

I wanted this to be the "Classic" guitar though. I have Black Winters in a Ibanez.

Have to admit, Black Winters with the 59/Custom in the neck does spark my curiosity though :)

Probably would have been the cheaper route...

Re: Neck P'up to match 59/Custom

If I split the Fuglybucker does the blade or PA coil work? this may be my solution.

Re: Neck P'up to match 59/Custom

Ok, I recorded 2 solos for an original last night and the Fugly is staying in the neck position. Rewiring my axe for 1 Vol., 1 Tone, and a Blend pot for the Fugly.
