Neck vs. Bridge Pickup

I recently got a set of Blackouts. One was labled N (neck) and the other B (bridge). Are the neck and bridge pickups wired differently? Could I use the pickup labled N in the bridge postion of my other guitar and get the same tone as the bridge blackout? I've never known if the difference in tone between a neck and bridge pickups was from the wiring of the pickup, or the position on the guitar, or both.

yes you can use a "bridge" in a neck position and a "neck" in a bridge position. But they are wound different. A bridge humbucker is usually wound hotter that a neck pickup because their is less string vibration over the bridge pickup so it has to be hotter. And there the strings vibrate more over the neck humbucker, so it usually doesnt need to be wound as hot as the bridge.

But yes you can use a bridge in the neck spot, a neck in the bridge spot or anyother combination you can think of. Its not going to hurt anything

+1. The "neck" you put in the bridge of your other guitar will not sound the same as the "bridge" you put in the bridge of your first guitar.

They are wound to complement each other in one guitar. However, lots of guys like neck pickups in the bridge of guitars, and lots of guys like bridge pickups in the neck. If it works for you that's all that matters.

I changed the emg's in my SG to a blackouts set a long time ago and while I love the earthy tones, I do remember the 81 working better for low tuned stoner riffing through my big muff. I was having trouble getting a good tone with my Laney AOR 100watt head until I swapped the pickup positions, you'll find that putting the BO neck in the bridge is really good for getting definition in the lower tunings. I also like the BO bridge better in the neck.
