Need a bassy Neck SD

Hi all,
I think I need a really bassy neck Pickup for my project, I had a body made and the Neck pickup rout is pretty far away from the neck its self (see Pic)

I think there will be a lack of bass response.

Im looking for something with lots of bass ( i think) and quite a bit of Mids.

Thats something I came across, although I could swear I read a bad review on these forums about it being very muddy and some other stuff which I cannot remember.

If I am wrong, please suggest why its a good choice : D

Depending on what bridge model you are going to use, a SH-5 Custom at the neck could give you just what you want.
I know the Custom is mainly known as a bridge pup, and there is no neck version of it, but placing an SH-5 at the neck has been done before with very nice results (in a Vigier Excalibur for example:TB-5 at bridge,SSL-6 in middle, SH-5 at neck, sounded very good).

well i personally never tried it, but when u said bassy, thats the first thing i thought of :D
thats why i put a question mark at the end.

other than that i think the alnico II pro would be decent there as well. as a neck pup its meant to be warm, fat and sweet sounding. and by looking at the tone charts it has a nice bass characteristic.

Re: Need a bassy Neck SD

I was browsing the tonechart but thought it would be better ask the community as they know best !

As for the bridge, Im not really sure yet, I have a SD Distortion laying around so I may put that in for the mo. The Bridge needs to be almost the opposite of the Neck PUP, I would like Lots of tone, a good midrange and not much bass.

alnico II pro seems a promising suggestion

Re: Need a bassy Neck SD

Looking at the Invader again and that seems exactly what I want, But I could swear I read that it was muddy as hell. But seen as it wont be up against the neck, It may work better ?

Re: Need a bassy Neck SD

i think the a2p would do fine just to be safe. but do wait for more forum bros to respond as there might be someone who has the invader in the neck

Re: Need a bassy Neck SD

The A2P usnt very bassy. It's thick, but not boomy.

Try a Screamin Demon in the neck.

Re: Need a bassy Neck SD

Why not a 59 neck? Plenty of bass and rather scoop mids, it seems to be what you're looking for.

Re: Need a bassy Neck SD

Bassy with no mud and a reasonable output.

Forgive me for my non-understanding of tight, im not so hot with PUP Sounds

Really? Very interesting! What have you tried it in - woods, 250k/500k? How would you describe it?

80s: if you plan to have separate volume pots for your neck and bridge pickups, consider a 250k pot for the neck. That will fatten it up, and maybe you won't have to go so far as an Invader neck.
