my celtic aislinn 6L6 needs a new 10" speaker. ive tried three in there and two of them were nice but i kinda want a combination of the last two. the amp is a tweed fender 5E7 type circut with more marshally tone caps in a solid pine box. the speaker config is 1 x 12" and 1 x 10". the 12" is a red fang and im very happy with it. ive run a jensen p10r, p10q, and eminence lil buddy. the p10r just didnt do it for me, to bright and thin. the p10q was much better, nice mids but still lacking low end. the lil buddy is nice and fat good bottom and strong mids, but im missing the alnico character that i had with the jensens.

any suggestions? weber?

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

Ramrod for muscle, Ragin' Cajun for a sweeter top end I believe...

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

Weber...a 10F125 for a nice punchy tone with solid bottom and nice tight all round tone...a 10F150T is you want even more bottom and louder...I personally like the 10F125 better.

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

Jensen Neo 10 -- full, relatively transparent sound that bridges the gap between alnico and ceramic. It's very efficient and loud -- sounds close to the 12" version overall. If you like the inherent tone of the amp, then the Neo will deliver it with relatively little extra coloration. I like how the Neo 12 and 10 sound with tweed circuits.

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

+1 on the ragin cajun -- my current favorite speaker. but also look into the weber alnico blue pup or silver ten -- they're just a little more $ than the ceramics, and they sound great, and they're brit-voiced, and they're really light (11 oz mags). can't go wrong with any of these, depending on what you're looking for.

i use neo speakers for my bass amp and i really like em but ive never tried a neo guitar speaker that i liked. the speaker is an essential part of the tone and the neos always sound flat to me. i tried the jensen 12" and it isnt bad but not good enough for me to use. havent tried the 10" though

what about the alnico 10"s of webers?

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

Don't they make a 10" red fang? If you like the way the 12" sounds maybe try the 10" in there too?>

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

i retro fitted a weber 12 alnico blue dog into my blues junior and its stunning. ive heard from people that the weber 10s are even better, so my vote would go with a weber

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

what about the alnico 10"s of webers?

I like them a lot...however they don't have the bottom and punch of the ceramics...the smaller ones (10A100T, etc) have a real reedy break up tone crunchy and a chimey clean tone the 10A125 is nice and a little more of what I think you're looking for...a 10A150(_) might be the ticket but I've never tried them.

Email Ted and ask his opinion, he's pretty slick on speakers combos...

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

I got two Eminence THE COPPERHEAD in my 59 bassman and I can't tell you how much I love'em. Very classic sweat fender clean sound. I tried RAGIN CAJUN but they were too aggressive for my bassman.

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

My head is a 59 Bassman style amp, and my cab has a quad of Eminence Legend 105 speakers. The 105s are more modern sounding, but a lot of people prefer 102s for vintage tones.

i was looking at the red fang 10 from the suggestion above, which looks good but for about the same money i can get either a 10a150, 10a150t, alnico 10vs or other weber alnico with his 10% off sale.

thanks for all the help so far guys

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

Hi Jeremy!

I'm looking for a new 10" speaker myself, and here in Italy they won't let you try-before-you-buy, so would you please keep us forumites posted 'bout the outcome of your search?

Thanking in advance,

Yours very truly,

Pepe aka Lt. Kojak

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

i emailed ted but i havent heard back, im really thinking the 10a150 is the ticket but id like to hear back from ted before i drop the $150+

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

Good luck with Weber Blue's here as well. About the only game in town as far as 10' go in my book.

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

ted said the 10a150t so thats what i ordered. i was really leaning to the 10a150 but ill go with teds recommendation. expect this thread to jump up again in four weeks

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

I'm using Tone Tubby hempcone 10's 2 Alnicos and 2 ceramics for my Fender Super Reverb head.
I tried weber ceramic and alnicos and eminence legend 105's as soon as I heared the tone tubby ceramics... I put the weber alnicos on ebay and went back and bought 2 alnicos to go with the ceramic Tone Tubby's. Never been this happy about speakers they let the full range ouitar come through.
Thanks for Listening
Tony

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

Typo on above...meant to say They let the full range of the guitar and amp to come through.

Re: need advice on 10" speaker

ive used tone tubbys before. i really like the alnico 12" with the newer lighter cone, the older heavier cones were too dark. i tried a ceramic 10 and it wasnt my favorite, never tried the alnico 10. i used to run thru a brown soun 2x12 with the alnico 12's and it was a great cab
