hi. this is my first post on this forum!

i need advices on a build im going to attend in the next weeks, i got a Yammy Pacifica 112v here i want to upgrade. i mostly play hard rock and metal and i find the pickups miss a little ''power'' especially compared to my other guitar (a shecter omen which have stock pups too)

first mod is a humbucker swap, i have the Duncan sh-6 distortion and the Duncan invader in mind but im not sure which one would work better with alder body.

then a new bridge. stock zinc block is crap and i have in mind to order a new GFS bridge with full size block. didn't find anything else that fit the Pac112v

after that come the rest. nut? tuners? im not sure what can be gained there since i wont be using the tremolo. and maybe look at new single coils/pots/wiring.

this is going to be used as my E Standard/Drop D/E Flat guitar, budget is around 400$ Canadian, group i mostly play is Metallica/Anthrax/Slayer/Megadeth/Overkill/Exodus with a side of Iron Maidens/ACDC/Airbourne

TL;DR:

-Pacifica 112v for hard rock/metal
-400$ Cad budget
-need advice for electronic/hardware ugrades

For that kind of money, you could get a better Pacifica model on the used market and save the hassle of upgrading a guitar that you won't ever get your money back out of if you decide to sell it in the future.

If you insist on modding your current Pacifica, start with the bridge pickup, then decide how much you'll really use the single coils and if they really require an upgrade. The stock bridge pickup is an Alnico 5 pickup. You could swap the magnet to an Alnico 8 or a Ceramic for just a few dollars and see if it does more of what you want. Otherwise, I'd recommend the Distortion for the styles you mention.

A bridge upgrade MAY be worth it, but if you're not using the trem anyway, then I'd hold out and see what the pickup change does for you.

If it were me, though, I'd mod the bridge pickup with a new magnet...MAYBE swap it for a Duncan Distortion...and spend the time and money locating a higher end pacifica on the used market (there are plenty in that price range!).

The Pacifica is a good guitar from what I've heard, essentially the higher end ones. I agree with masta'c, unless you've got a particular attachment to this particular guitar, I wouldn't try to upgrade it to much. A mag switch or pickup switch that can easily be redone is about all I would do. Better to start out with a higher end guitar and go from there.

That model is a reasonable guitar. I wouldn't recommend getting rid of it. Drop a Distortion in it and see how you like that. Then you could worry about replacing other parts later.
