Need another Stratocaster. which one should I get?

Re: Need another Stratocaster. which one should I get?

FGN, the poor man's Suhr. MIM price at Prestige quality. It's not popular in the USA cause you probably can't find a dealer there.

Re: Need another Stratocaster. which one should I get?

Decided to go partscaster natural finish probably Danish oil. Need to find high quality, preferable one piece body. Then matching neck with TBD specs, TBD hardware and electronics.

Thank you all for the lively and informative discussion.

I just found this thread. I think your partscaster is a good idea. You may want to look at a roasted swamp ash body from Warmoth. Those take a natural finish like nothing else.

you can get SD loaded pickguards complete with high quality pots, etc. i'd go for the SSL-1 set. if the neck radius is flatter (12") you can get the flat pole version (SSL-2). real strat tones.

Re: Need another Stratocaster. which one should I get?

Don't know why everybody always gravitates toward those models. I dislike them. Consider a Malmsteen Strat cuz those are by far the easiest Fender to play. Although they do have their disadvantages. Also consider the Classic Player series. Good combination of vintage features with more modern ones. Good radius and bigger frets and more stable whammy bar work too. The Road Worns are good too. Jumbo frets on those. Easier to bend.

Re: Need another Stratocaster. which one should I get?

In the Strat world, there are so many choices. Some are hung up on the Fender name, some on the 'Made in USA' thing. If that is you, then you just have a few choices. If not, there are some great options from other companies. Current Fender models don't have everything I want in a Strat, and I see no reason to pay for something I am just going to change. Go to a well-stocked guitar store, and play. Go home and research woods. Look at Warmoth's website...I built a Strat, and it is wonderful (and never did it before). So take your time.

Re: Need another Stratocaster. which one should I get?

Build one! All three of mine are homebuilds. If you watch Precision parts you can get factory 2nd bodies on the cheap, and grab a neck from Warmoth's screaming deals.

Or FGN... if you can find it.

FGN = FujiGen Gakki Japan = factory that churned out Japanese Ibanez / Ibanez Prestige, some Fender Japan, etc... contract manufacturer for many or even most Made in Japan guitars

I have one of the early FujiGen Stagg Teles from the early 70's. It's a fine guitar.

Re: Need another Stratocaster. which one should I get?

I've been building my own strats for a long time but I think late this fall when I need some tax writeoff stuff I'm gonna try out one of those Dillion strat copies. If it's as good as my Phoenix it's arguably the best Strat deal going. Only minor niggle I can see looking at it is 21 frets...

Re: Need another Stratocaster. which one should I get?

That's cool. I haven't seen one of the new ones.

Theyre literally called FGN. On the headstock.

Cool looking stuff, both originals and classic designs:

I looked at their site. They really have quite a lineup. Seymour Duncans in them, too. At least in the couple I checked out. Thanks for mentioning that.

I didn't know about the FGN guitars. Great stuff, there, and unique, which I like.
