The notes, C, E, and A... It's an inverted A Minor chord. Flip them around and you have A-C-E. It could also be a C6 chord, just with no 5th. It mostly depends on what is going on with the bass.

I concur with the A minor first inversion.
And it could be a C6, without the 5th.

A 6-chord is literally the relative minor of that chord in its 1st inversion... If you are going to drop a note within the chord, the 5 is the most expendable. Except for the root which is being sounded in one form or another by your bassist. If you drop the 3rd, you lose the quality of the "chord" and it becomes a diad, even with an added seventh regardless of the 7th's quality. By that, I mean the 3rd defines a chord as major or minor. Drop the 3rd and you end up with an embellished power chord.

It is cool that you are experimenting with tones. That is an excellent way to improve you repotoire and improvisational skills as well!
