Is it possible to wire up a 4 way switch in a tele with the series in position 1 instead of position 4? any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

Re: need different 4 way tele diagram

I disagree.

You can have the "both PUs in series" combination in any location of the selector switch that you prefer. It is just a matter of repositioning all of the cable contacts accordingly.

Visualise the switch terminals as 1 to 4 + wiper and wiper + 1 to 4. The cables shown going to the number 4 contacts will go instead to the number 1 contacts. All of the other input connections shift one place towards the vacant number 4 contacts.

Draw it out. It will make sense.

If you do not actually have the four-way switch yet, I recommend the age old SD mod for series/parallel switching in the middle position only. This employs the regular three way selector plus either a DPDT mini switch or a push/pull pot.

Is there anyway you can post a diagram for me to do this? I can't quite figure it out and I don't want to mess up this new switch. Thanks for your time!!!

Take a look at this schematic.

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=tele_4ws

NOTE: You will almost certainly need to modify the grounding of your neck/rhythm PU first.

Visualise the switch contacts as follows:

GROUNDING SIDE
1 = blank
2 = link to 3
3 = link to 2 + ground wire to pot chassis
4 = SERIES link to Signal Side 4
W = Neck PU black wire

SIGNAL SIDE
W = Bridge PU white wire
1 = Neck PU white wire + link to 2
2 = link to 1 + signal output to volume pot
3 = blank
4 = SERIES link to Grounding Side 4

Redraw these as follows:

GROUNDING SIDE
1 = SERIES link to Signal Side 1
2 = blank
3 = link to 4
4 = link to 3 + ground wire to pot chassis
W = Neck PU black wire

SIGNAL SIDE
W = Bridge PU white wire
1 = SERIES link from Grounding side 1
2 = link to 3 + Neck PU white wire
3 = link to 2 + signal output to volume pot
4 = blank

W = Wiper. i.e. The contact that is always on.
