Need Distortion Pedal Recommendations

Re: Need Distortion Pedal Recommendations

BTW ,Rocktron Silver Dragon is amazing. You have to change the tube in it ,but for that price ,you can't get a better one...

I really like this pedal, but I am wary of suggesting it for metal. It has a hot modern marshall type sound, and to my ears, fair amount of mids which cant be easily dialled out. Lots of bass which can get a bit loose, which wont work for someone looking for tight scooped tones. It enters fuzzy territory with the treble turned up.Great for hard rock/Maiden/vintage metal. They really should advertise it properly.

Seriously check out the AMT pedal clips, these pedals are not very well-known, but its quality stuff.

Heh, I bet thats what he thought last time until he found truly heavy tones come from less likley places.

Yup.

Although I don't regret selling off the old Recto rackmount I do miss not having any sort of a Recto to play with.

Re: Need Distortion Pedal Recommendations

I've never used a Metal Zone, but it's a Boss pedal, and it has like 4 EQ knobs or something on it, and it sounds like it might be up your alley.

Digitech Grunge for raunchy distro on the cheap. It's what the Death Metal wanted to be. Or a multi-tone pedal like the Digitech Metal Master. OR, if you want to part with some bread, a Damage Control Demonizer.

my zoom tri-metal smokes the metalzone out of the sludge. it fact, it was the best (imo) non-boutique distortion pedal compared to all the offerings from boss and digitech/dod. no experience with the uber metal though. would love to a/b it someday.

Re: Need Distortion Pedal Recommendations

I tested the Uber-Metal.It's a good pedal. But IMHO ,it wouldn's crunch well on a Orange. It sounds better with SS amps!

The Silver Dragon needs Tube change. After that ,it gets tighter ,and has more gain!

If you want to give more money ,why not to try the Damage Control Demonizer! That thing is really tweakable and a whole new channel to your Orange i think!

I like my dragon as well. I tend to use it for what I think of as ratty tweed and plexi vibe on channel one. Channel 2 has a bit of the Mesa vibe to it, but as that is not my style I am not able to be of much help. Her is where it fits in my board.
