Need help choosing pickups.

I just bought an agile al 3000 and wanted to change out the stock PUs, for those of you who dont know its like a les paul. Same woods shape etc. I play some classic rock like led zeppelin. But I also play som heavier stuff like ACDC mettalica ozzy and GNR just to name a few. For the neck pickup I was debating over the 59 and alnico 2 pro, leaning more towards the A2P. As for the bridge I was thinking the PG but im open to other ideas to. I was just wondering if these would be good or if should I go for something else. O and my guitar has an ebony fretboard thought that might help.

Duncan makes some of the best PAF's there are. You can't go wrong with '59's, PG's, or A2P's, in any combination. All are great choices. Pick two and don't sweat it.

BTW, congrats on the Agile. I need to get one myself. What color?

I got the honey sunburst with a flame top. It looks great, and plays way better than i thought it would.

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

PGn in the neck, TB-5 Duncan Custom in the bridge.

Congrats on the Agile. I LOVE mine! It is my #1, and I have a pile of good wood to choose from.

Because you are delving into higher gain from a classic base, I would also suggest the above mentioned set. That will cover many of the styles you want...although Metallica is a hard reach from classic tone LP's.

I got my Custom Built Agile PS with the intent of covering many styles from classic to hard rock and early metal, and it really delivers. I took out the week ceramics (cheaper that way) and put an EVO set in. It is killer! This thick mahogany guitar (mahogany neck too...ebony board and maple top), much like a PRS McCarty, rocks hard with the EVO's. I also have a GFS P90 in the mid position for acoustic sims (works). And I get great single coil tones with this EVO set too, like a Tele bridge and Strat neck. BUT The PGn and SH-5 are very good for a hard rocking LP!

Show us that Agile! Here is my Agile before I installed the EVO pups and D-Tuna on the Floyd. I love this guitar! :10:

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

I just got my Al-3100 today and I was shocked by how nice the stock pickups are. very PAFish and plenty of sizzle.

Funny how if I were to replace them, I was thinking of trying dominus' suggestion, a PGn and a Custom or maybe a covered Screamin Demon for something like the 59 but with some girth... I'm in no hurry, though.

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

I have an a4 59n and I feel like it's a warmer, more balanced neck pickup than the agile neck pickup.
The A2Pn is warmer and the bass is softer, too. it just depends on how warm you wanna go.

The 59b was bright enough in the Epi that I changed to 250K's for the bridge pickup.
Never played an A2Pb but have wanted to.

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

If you want low output and a good tone out a LP I would get the Seth Lover's personally.

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

I thought about it and i dont care about low output any more. However does the custom and PG sound good split?

Re: Need help choosing pickups.

I've heard the PG classified as being a lil bright but it should probably suit you well.
As far as a bridge pickup, a PG bridge would probably be fine. Angus' PG is probably just overwound a bit or something.
Would an antiquity bridge be a good match output-wise? The handwinding, aging, and a2 mag could give you the character you're looking for.
