Need help deciding between a few pickups for my explorer

Re: Need help deciding between a few pickups for my explorer

i have the Custom / Jazz combo in my Gibson Flying V and LOVE IT!
i prefer the Jazz for its rounder tones over the 59 in the neck.

I went the Dimarzio route with my explorer (Air Norton / Super D) which is kind of all out high output.

I think the 59n/PGn/Jazz neck and Custom bridge seem to all be good choices with more vintage output in the neck which is usually recommended.

I really like the 500T in an Explorer, the neck pickup has got to go though.

To me the 500T has lots of output but was too nasally sounding and screechy when pushed really hard. But it's not terrible just lacking something.

I've recently helped a customer choosing the best p'up set for his Gibson Explorer korina reissue.

He plays heavy rock, not a lot of metal, and after trying several Gibson, Duncan and Di Marzio p'ups, he finally settled with the Custom 8 / '59n A4 set. A set that I've been advocating for almost two years now.

The final decision was made after the fact that this set sounded excellent both clean AND overdriven. Even his brother (a jazz-fusion player, LOL), was surprised about the versatility of this combo in this particular guitar.

HTH,

+1. C8/'59 is a great pair. Works for me for blues & classic rock.
