Need help for a bridge pup for Epi LP

Hi there, I've got a fairly new epiphone les paul standard and I've been at great pains to find a new bridge pickup. I was looking at the sh1-'59 but from what you all say it seem to work best as a neck pickup. Im after something warm but with a touch of bite, nothing too heavy. The music I like and the sound I'm after is early Oasis - Definitely Maybe era. I need something that is good for rock/pop thats not made for heavy rock/metal!

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks

Jonny

A set of 59's would be killer and very similar to what would have been in Clapton's SG when he played with Cream. Hard to beat that tone!

The most popular combo seems to be a 59N or Jazz neck and a JB bridge model...I've put that set in two Epi Les Pauls and one LP Studio, and it turned them into totally professional sounding instruments.

I'd say try the 59B or JB.

For Oasis style tunes, I would go witha Seth Lover set, 59 set, Pearly Gates set, or APH set. If you need a hotter bridge pickup, I would go with Lew's suggestion of a JB, but you might also consider the Screamin Demon, Custom 5, and Custom Custom.

The Seth Lovers will be smooth in the mids with good sparkle in the highs, the 59's will have strong highs and lows with a dip in the mids, the Pearly Gates will have strong mids and high mids with taut lows and plenty of bite, and the APH will be very smooth and even from highs to lows.

the JB will be aggressive with good lows, highs, and a bump in the high mids that will help it cut through, the C5 will have lots of lows, good highs, and a slight dip in the mids, the Screamin Demon has a similar curve as the C5, but has less output, lows, and has a bit more growl in the mids than the C5. The CC is big, smooth and buttery with smooth higs, soft lows, and lots of low mids.

My personal pick in a Paul is the Pearly Gates set, followed closely by the APH neck and C5 bridge combo.

Cheers for your replies! I'm just looking to replace the bridge pickup for the moment, I think it's going to be a close contest between the seth lover and the '59.

They're both two of my favorite pickups. If you listen to Eric Clapton on the John Mayall Bluesbreakers album or Cream's Disraeli Gears or Wheels of Fire, you'll hear him playing his '60 Les Paul or '64 SG or early 60's ES-335 and what are probably alnico 5 humbuckers similar to the 59B.

If you listen to Fresh Cream, you'll hear him playing what I think is a '58 Les Paul and using alnico 2 pickups similar to the Seth Lover.

More treble and deeper, tighter bass from the '59. More mids and a slightly warmer, smoother tone from the Seth Lover.

Both are killer pickups!
