need help for treble bleed??

few questions to plague you guys with.

the squire strat mod progress is slowly but surely taking shape.

what i wondered is, would it be overkill to have 1 meg pots, 7 way switching with series and parallel options and to have a treble bleed option on top of all that?

secondly, what should i use, i have read up and i know that a .001 cap isa good place to start but can i do a treble bleed with a .047microfarad cap or do i need a much lower value?

also do what resistor do i need, if i can use the .047 cap? i have an orange drop cap ready to put in the thing, but idk if i can use it for the treble bleed anyways....

Re: need help for treble bleed??

Not so sure if you'll need a resistor if you're Keeping it passive.

The one thing with modding to keep in mind is that you're altering the sound for your ears.

That said my suggestion would be to try the different caps using alligator clips and see what you like best or to get a better idea of how to get the tone you're after.

yeah i shall have to try that. bit awkward on a strat cause you need to loosen the strings or remove them to gain good access to the wiring

Re: need help for treble bleed??

Just a point of semantics...treble "pass" mod is what you're talking about. Bleed is the passive tone control you find on most guitars.

Cliffs: "Bleed" the treble to ground via the tone pot, and "pass" treble around the tone pot with the mod.

carry on

Re: need help for treble bleed??

Using a .047uF cap for a treble bypass will send a high proportion of your signal directly to the jack socket, rendering the volume pot semi-redundant.

then why does every idiot on the internet call it the bleed.... :smash:

right ok.... so the lower the value the better?

Re: need help for treble bleed??

right i see....

problem is i just want the treble frequencies to be intact when i roll down the pot, my sound is heavily reliant on my Midrange and Treble settings (bass hardly exists!!! lol)

the advantage i could see with the kinman mod is that i can get a really vintage tone...
