Need Help in a Mahogany Body

Hey there,

New member here :sigh:

Well I'm putting together a custom guitar. The Basic specs are Mahogany Body, Maple Neck and Maple Fretboard with a recessed floyd rose. Its got a Humbucker in the bridge and a single in the neck. Basically I was looking for advice as to what I should put in there. I play mostly hard rock/metal out of a JCM 800.

I have a similar guitar already (Kramer Proaxe) with a PATB in the Bridge and a Hot Rails in the neck but I was wondering if there would be anything better suited for me or just a little bit different.

Thanks for all your help!

Chris

Re: Need Help in a Mahogany Body

Welcome!

My standard answer to a pup config of that nature for hard rock/metal would be the DD in the bridge and a Cool Rails in the neck. Mission accomplished.

Re: Need Help in a Mahogany Body

Do you play more rhythm or lead? The Distortion would be my choice for rhythm work, or the screaming demon if you need something with less output. For lead the JB will get things done.

i tend to switch back and forth with my brother who uses EMGs (ZW Set)

The distortion doesn't sound like a bad idea- is it good for leads too?

Re: Need Help in a Mahogany Body

Yes the leads are really good. Won't be as sweet as the JB and will have a sharper sound.

The Duncan Distortion is a beast, but i'm not sure whether it'd do hard rock (by hard rock i'm assuming you mean Led Zeppelin style).

What type of metal do you play?

Death, thrash, old-school, prog etc.

yeah I mean Zep/Aerosmith style

I play mostly hair metal with a little big of newer stuff mixed in occasionally i guess- Motley Crue, Guns N Roses, Van Halen, Ozzy, Whitesnake stuff like that mainly

Re: Need Help in a Mahogany Body

I'd say the Custom 5 bridge then with the Cool Rails neck.

The Screamin' Demon will suffice for 80's metal too but i'd say C5/Cool Rails.

Sounds like JB territory to me... excellent eighties style crunch!
