i am looking to get a very flexible amp. something with great cleans and hi gain distortion. i know i could get an ada mp-1 off ebay but then id have to get a tube preamp and it would be alot for friendly but a little more expensive.

i play neoclassical, blues rock, jazz, metal.

Re: need help looking for my first tube amp!

where will you be playing it, and what's your potential budget?

Re: need help looking for my first tube amp!

its going to be a live/ recording amp my budget is $1000.00.

my rack also has a furman power conditioner, and a korg tuner as well as the rocktron xpression unit.

Re: need help looking for my first tube amp!

i thought about a ceriatone but its not in the us so f*ck that

has anybody played a carvin v3?
p.s. dont tell me about your crappy experiences with v30's the amps not designed for those!

Re: need help looking for my first tube amp!

yeah personally I wouldn't mind getting nailed on int'l shipping and import/customs crap. Getting a JCM800 clone for $1000 would be bad-ass

Re: need help looking for my first tube amp!

to me, the right answer is a mesa roadster, but even used they arent under a grand - still wish i hadnt sold mine

maybe see is you can find a used rivera

Peavey 3120. Good cleans and very heavy distortion on tap.

I have a V3, I love it- it plays everything- though lately I've rediscovered my old Marshall JCM800

Re: need help looking for my first tube amp!

Try a Carvin Legacy Series I, it goes for $799 NEW at carvinguitars.com. Great cleans, amazing high gain distortion

Re: need help looking for my first tube amp!

+1 for the Fender SuperSonic..it'll do any shade you need except maybe Death Metal.

Re: need help looking for my first tube amp!

How about a single channel amp that you can boost into killer overdrive?

Don't know your budget, but you can find a Laney Pro-Tube 30 for nice prices. And it's loud enough for gigging, too.

Re: need help looking for my first tube amp!

Or, my choice would be the Fender Deluxe VM. It blew me away when I played it.

I was thiiiiiis close to getting it, it was just too good, but a used deal popped up that I couldn't refuse.

It truly has an awesome high gain tone. You have to play one to believe it.

Check out that second video for the in-between tone: the clean channel cranked --- MMM-MMM!!!!

Just an alternative option from the regular hi-gain stuff.
