This is a dangerous thread, I know.
For the record, I have used the search feature for about 20 minutes and I couldn't find anything for the pickups I want to mix. If there's something, I apologise if I missed it.
I'm from the UK and I recently got my hands on a decent blue Squier Cyclone. However, I feel it's not outputting what I want from it any more.
So, my initial thought was to buy an entirely new guitar, but I feel the other guitars don't play like my Cyclone. My friend said that it would be cheaper and better for me to buy the pickups I want and put them into the guitar.
Now here's my issue: I play punk rock more than anything, but I also like to deviate and play some Floyd, maybe some Kooks, Chuck Berry, and some other of the classics; and I like my neck pickup to be real smoooooooth.
The pickups I've chosen are: a 'Seymour Duncan STK-T1N Vintage Stack Rhythm' for a Tele, and a 'Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB Humbucker'.
I have read about "active" and "passive" pickups and now I'm even more confused.
So there's my question. Can you mix a 'Seymour Duncan STK-T1N Vintage Stack Rhythm' and a 'Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB Humbucker'? And if you can't, is there a good single coil pickup which gives me that smooth sound and is compatible with the SH-4 JB?
I'm sorry if this is a pure basic question, I've been playing for 5 years on pre-made guitars and I have near to no knowledge on pickups.
Thanks!
Will
